Steering wheel question
Discussion
Cider andy included this link in Trellis's question about seats. Didn't want to hijack his post so copied it - hope thats OK. these
My question is love the feel of the professional steering wheel in the Chim, but hate the look. Love the look of this one, but thought it may not feel as good as the original or be as good to use.
Anyone got one to give us some feedback.

Like this one, but seem to remember from the post that it took hours with a dremmel (? spelling). Anyone else done it an easier way?
It's January. It's freezing cold. The roads are alternatively covered in salt/ filth. It gets dark at 5pm. There's sod all on telly. What else have you got to do?
If you make a pigs ear of it, you can always paint it black again.
It also depends on your dash. I think a wood rimmed wheel with the veneer dash looks horrid. Far too busy, yet with a stainless dash it looks great (see profile for a pic).
They do however, have a tendency to get a bit sticky/sweaty when it's hot though so bear that in mind if you do decide to go for one.
In terms of overall comfort I've driven 500 miles in one day and over 9000 in the last year and never had any comfort problems with the wheel, the when its hot sweaty problem is not all that bad and IMHO is a small price to pay for what I think is a very classy looking wheel.

I know someone posted on how to do this. Don't suppose anyone has the link to hand do you? Tried a forum search, but it does not appear to be working at the moment. Also searched baldy's profile, but it says he has not posted on any forums?
Can anyone help?
Ref rounding allen heads - Try using an impact driver on them. If they do round it isn't the end of the world, drill the heads off, it'll be the compressive forces of the wheel against the hub that's making them tight, so once the wheel's off they should come out pretty easily......assuming no one's threadlocked them in!

Hi Baldy,
What a fine job!!
I also like your steering wheel. Where did you get that polished or did it come like that??
Cheers Lig. I first saw a steering wheel like it at one of the meets and asked the guy how he'd done it. He said he'd used Wet and Dry so i thought i'd have a go, but also thought there must be an easier way (wrong!!), as i tried a little dab of paint stripper on the back of the wheel, this didn't even mark the paint, so a thick dab left for a bit, still didn't even mark it. I tried using a Dremill which fetched the paint off but i wouldn't recomend as it's a bit too coarse on the curvey bits. I eventually gave in and resorted to Wet and Dry, 4 hours later and fingers blistered but worth it came out as above. Just pop the badge off from the back and peel the leather back slightly and glue back down when finished.
Baldy.

If you do, spend a few quid on some stainless allen bolts to finish the job properly! Leven do them.
Already got some of these which look good on the black wheel, but tend to think the black bolts look better when polished up, as in the pics. But at least I will have the choice.
