I have a 99 Chim 4L with Borg Warner gearbox. Had to reverse along way down the road the other day and it sounded like a Morris Minor . Now, if anyone had ever been out in a Morris minor you will know what I mean .

Just wanted to know if anyone else has the same sound, or is is overhaul time. 11k of sedate miles driven only .

Cheers

Nothing to worry about there, most boxes are noiser in reverse, idler comes into play, more gears moving!

Plus I believe there is no synchro on reverse and the gears are straight cut instead of helical. My mate had a Mini and a Morris Minor and they both had straight cut gearboxes (the Mini's was non-standard) and sounded like reverse on a T5.

The scary thing here is that your gearbox is louder than your exhaust! Get a big 8-foot long drill and clear out your pipes!

(and yes, reverse is straight-cut hence the whine and occasional crunching when trying to engage it)
