Apparently it's some sort of radar detector. (They're being sold on ebay).

Good/crap? Not allowed to discuss?

As far as I am aware the only detectors of use in the UK are the big 3.

Snooper S5
Bel Euro 330 / 550
Valentine 1

These are called the big 3 as you will be well into 3 hundred pounds to buy any of them.

Friends have tested others and quickly upgraded to one of the big 3 (may be it is them getting rid of their old kit).

Is the Val-1 'the best' then?!

Speaking as a total radar detector novice.....

NO the Bell is, the V1 has features on it we dot need i.e direction radar is coming from (it uses two ariels for this)thus making it more expensive. It has features like this as it was designed for the US market.I currently use a S5 am not that impressed(fasle alarms are too high) also using a blue I which is brillient am looking to fit a LRC-100 jammer as that seems to be the best you can get
P.S the V1 is still very good

Have been using a Uniden for a while now. It was bought in the states about $200 or so. Almost identical design to the Snooper products I've seen. Probably same factory different case. Usually 2 buttons on the top with a window suction cup. A mode switch to switch betweeen city and mute etc.. Works fine. Makes a hell of a racket in Central London (too much) interference. Has (saved my ass) located potential accident blackspots on several occasions. One thing I found a little annoying...in a Honda hard acceleration used to set it off all the time. Had me kangarooing for a while.
