I know this sounds a simple question to answer but please read on....

I personally imported my new "UK Spec" 996 Turbo from Switzerland in May of this year. The car has all of the necessary extras (plus a few others) to make it the same as a UK supplied car.

However, the code for the car is C98 and not C16 (which is for a UK supplied car). According to AFN this means it does not have a Thatcham Approved immobiliser/alarm system because they only approve them if fitted to a C16 car.

The import agent has told me it's fitted with the same system regardless of coding although that may not help much given an insurance claim. Insurance companies love loopholes like this if it means they can avoid a claim.

My insurance brokers have told me that everything will be okay as long as I can get something in writing to state that the alarm is the same as fitted to a C16 car.

How can I best get a definitive answer on this? Do Porsche have a technical assistance service that would be prepared to put something like this in writing to me?

Any sensible suggestions gratefully accepted.

Sounds like Insurance co has all the cards in case of a claim.

try Porsche technical support UK on 0118 9252 788

Don't know if they will be that helpful as it may take an inspection to see if the alarm is up to the required stndard...good Luck!

My car is a Porsche GB car and one of the things they do at ~Reading to all "UK" porsches before sending the cars out to the dealerships is tweak the alarm in some way. I assume this is getting the alarm to Thatcham standard. As mentioned previously speak to Porsche GB at Reading.

(One of the other things they do is adjust the spoiler raising speed to 70mph)
