Received my NIP yesterday, 85mph in a 70 and I've got a clean licence so no great shakes. The point is several times I've seen a camera van and slowed down, and the Laser warning has gone off on my Origin B2. The location and density of traffic where the Scamera van was prevented me from seeing him (and presumably vice versa) until the last minute. No activation of the B2 so I thought few that was lucky and then the NIP arrived!

Any thoughts advice appreciated

Do not rely on laser detection equipment - its useless. Whilst there are occaisons it may work its not worth spending any money on it.

Now garage door openers that a differment matter - but detectors are useless.

I completely agree with NugentS

Had you not spotted the camera van in those instances, all your detector would have done is inform you that you're going to be NIPped.

Thanks to the small beam divergence and depending on the geometry of the set-up when measurement was done, it's perfectly possible for the laser beam to hit part of your vehicle and miss your detector.

It may be worth demanding the photo/video evidence if there were other vehicles in the vicinity.

Yes your laser detector is any good if its well positioned, though they quite probably clocked you from the rear.

I've had a copper point a 2020 straight at me. Looking down the barrel so to speak. Not a squeek from the B2.

The road was very busy, all three lanes on the Motorway and I only saw him at the last minute due to density of traffic. I'll ask for photographic evidence as a first step.

Thanks for you replies/advice.

He was probably just taking his time to assess your velocity and obtaining his 'prior opinion of speed' before using the laser to just back up what he thought....

(Sarcastic tone implied!)

I would rather bet that the B2 aint that good, and didnt pick up the signal rather than that!

Mine has never worked. Origin told me how to test it with a mobile phone, and it only worked (briefly) when plugged into the wrong socket.

Has yours ever given you an alert whilst driving...?

I don't wish to sound sarcastic but do you genuinely expect any device to be able to warn you of your own excess speed without fail?

These devices are just another tool in the box. Use your eyes. Exceed the limit in certain areas only, drive responsibly, keep your eyes peeled on slip roads, bridges, etc..

volvos70t5, if you are going to reply, at least take the time to read the post properly and understand what I am asking. Otherwise you are at risk of coming accross as a smart arse.

Dense traffic, 3 lane motorway, presumably limited visability (you couldn't see the camera van and vice versa), what benefit would you have gained from having got a warning from your B2? That you knew there would be a NIP in the post shortly.

Sorry, but I seem to be totally missing the point about what you are complaining about here.

Positioning is the key.

The laser sensor needs to be below the rear view mirror, to be visible from front and rear of vehicle.

Indeed it has. It also goes off without fail on the M4/M25 interchange by heathrow. I presume it's something to do with either security or something airporty. :S

I'm really not sure on my B2 laser detector. The unit itself is spot on every time when alerting to fixed camera positions, and the other features win as well.

When I originally installed it 2 years ago, the laser alert went off all the time. Origin kindly sent me a ferrite colar to fix the interferance, but since that day the laser alert has never gone off. Now I have thankfully not had a NIP since I have owned it, but I have certainly passed a lot of scameras.

My detector is positioned below the rear view mirror so should have a good sight, but either my detector is not working or the scamera boys get a good shot at me without any scatter. Anyhow, like the previous comments, all the laser alert will tell you is that you've been zapped and to expect a NIP. So no great shakes, might even remove mine....

Is it an urban myth that Plod machines are sending out a plain clothes beam so that they cannot be detected?????
