Having owned an early 4.2 Cerbera I'm intrigued to see that there was apparently a 4.5 lightweight model produced.

I'm purely curious but how much lighter is a lightweight than a normal 4.5, what are the actual differances, or is it just an urban myth?

Do a search on this forum - has been discussed many times.

In summary, the jury is out on any weight saving, but the 4.5LWs did have other distinguishing features (different roll cage, seats, A pillar & rear screen trim, lights etc.) that were eventually carried over to the entire Cerbera range.

Specs suggested it was 40kg saved in the bootlid, doors and bonnet.

Reality is slightly different...

Thanks for the replies chaps.

So in summary, a bit of a myth / marketing exercise then.

Thinking of coming back bertie??

There are independants now that have significantly moved the game on in terms of performance upgrades. You can make them go round corners, have real 400bhp+/ big torque, run smoother than you would ever believe... etc etc

Hell, late Cerberas are even holding thier value pretty well!!!

go on, go on, go on, go on, go on...

Isn't the body made with Coremat on the light weights, same as used in the T series cars?

I dont know, when you find something so sexy that it keeps you awake at nigh wondering "what if" - perhaps its worth persuing... You havent ahd a remapped/ Red rose'd 4.5 yet, and it would allow you to travel with your kids at a rate that the 360 cant compete with.

Dont look back in anger maybe, but perhaps its time you gave the right one a second chance

Im just throwing it out there... dont let it leave you with sleepless nights.

Hey, I've had 6 TVRs, I don't think you can accuse me of not giving them a full try!

But don't think that the Ferrar thing is all about pose value, once you've driven and lived with one they are genuily fantastic.

But the 4 seat thing is true but I'm thinkng 612 Scaglietti rather than Cerbera to be honest.

Having said that I've not driven a Sagaris yet.......

I have been in a couple of 360's at Vmax, you're right, they are indeed very nice cars... not driven one yet, but open to offers

Not sure about the Scalleggggawhqwhwehg myself, but if its anything like the 575 I went in (vmax again!) it must be awesome

Ferraris seem like nicely balance almost "delicate" handling cars, at the moment I prefer the more brutal seeming TVR style of holding on for dear life on a half turn of opposite lock (from driving dads car so far - beutifully mapped 4.5 Cerb) I think you would be suprised how far the Cerbera can be developed with a few light mods from your old 4.2. I'd pick a late Cerb with the right spec over a Sag every day of the week!

The bonnets are definately lighter to lift on a lightweight than compared to the normal versions, as for the boot and doors, the hinges take all the weight, so not easy to tell.
There is much improved visibility throught the front due to the revised rollbar round the windscreen. However, the lack of sun visors make driving towards the sun abit of a challange

The Scaglietti is indeed fantastic, a league ahead even from the 575 Maranello.
I was lucky enough to be invited to a launch drive at Goodwood circuit last year and so had an hour on track in one, unbelievable for such a large looking car.

I think I've now been spoily by the Ferraris and would find it difficult to put up with the TVRs "idiosyncrsis" shall we say.
I'm not blind to Ferraris failings, some of the electrics are still not 100% but the pics of a 7 year old Cerb chassis on another thread are a startling indicator of some of the issues TVR need to address to compete.

All IMHO of course.

All the lightweights I've seen are without that, AFAIK that was one of the ways they dropped the weight.

Mine are in the boot helping get some weight over the wheels!

I took them off as they were always dropping down an inch and the roll bar does a good job as a sun visor anyway.
