Gatso cameras and direction of travel?

Hi All,

I've just been reading about someone on another forum that thinks they have been flashed by a gatso when approaching it face on, on the other side of the road if that makes sense. Double flash I wonder if I'll get caught blah blah.

I'm pretty sure that the Gatsos don't go off at all, and suggested I thought it'd be a truvelo camera if anything, but does anyone know if Gatsos flash the oncoming traffic as a warning etc? I'm guessing there's no risk of prosecution as the pics will be useless etc?

Unless things have changed, a Gatso will only flash an approaching driver (front facing) if there is no camera in it – they are not approved for forward facing enforcement.

It’s the Truvelo’s you need to watch as these can be used for both front and rear. If the flash was 2x bright white then it’s a Gatso so their okay, if it was a single bright magenta flash they may be in trouble.

Thanks for the reply steve, I didn't realise they would flash at all if you were facing the camera.

The absence of a camera does not stop a Gatso flashing on-coming traffic. Type approval has nothing to do with it, other than to deny the issue of a fine - Streaky

To clarify, if a GATSO flashes when you are heading toward it, you wont get done?

This happened to me last year. There were no cars on the other side of the armco (d/c) come to think of it... no others on my side either. Camera on opposite side flashed.

No NIP.
