I just received an email from my satellite service internet provider....
They've gone bust and are turning off my sat connection later today....
Lead times for a new one woth someone else are looking at 2-4 weeks.... that's 2-4 weeks where I can't earn any money - no internet.. no job...
This is one disaster scenario for which I don't have a recovery plan.... now why didn't I order that backup ISDN line when I set up over here?
Oh yeah that's right... there are no ISDN lines left in the local exchange... all 16 are already connected to other houses somewhere...
feck feck feckity feck feck feck....
I'm going to the pub, I may be some time....

My collegue in Wales is going to love hoovering up all the people affected by this - he's in a similar market and Aramiska was his biggest competitor.
I do genuinely feel for the peopel affected, and hopefully it'll force the government to force BT Wholesale to buck it's ideas up and sort out the rural peeps.

yup Aramiska.... service was great but I heard a rumour they were selling below cost
Anyway on dial up for now and then - new kit ordered should have a new dish and base station before the end of the week.
Te crowd we got the new system from say they took 80 orders the morning Aramiska went dry... as mentioned good time to be in the sat kit installation industry.
Later dudes...

Hurrah!
Phew.... back at last....
Jeez it's been like having an arm missing thess last few weeks...
Even getting my email was nigh on impossible. I never realised how active my local spam filter is, since waking up to 15 pages of spam everyday, and having to go through it page by page online. Using web mail trying to delete it all... with a connection that on a good day was pushing about 1.5K/s up and about 2.5K/s down.....
Fingers crossed we'll be ok for a while now!

Good news for people so abruptly cut-off by the demise of Aramiska, the company is running again. We have had a couple of emails letting us know this, and it seems The Register have had the same.
The company Ouranos Networks has taken over the operation, and in its letter to customers it is telling them that all they should need to do to get access over the satellite connection again is to reboot the hardware.
