Am buying back my old speedboat (can't wait!) in partnership with a mate. I used to dry moor her at Rochester, which is relatively close to my home in S. London. Although the Medway is (after 20 years navigating it!) pretty boring it does offer regularly calm water and the chance to blast around in the estuary if it is too rough for water skiing etc. My mate and I would now like to moor her on the south coast and have viewed a marina in Littlehampton which seems to offer what we want except Littlehampton is on a flat uninteresting section of coast which offers no shelter for the speedboat captain. If we move along to Chichester we are similarly stuck as there is no speeding in the natural harbour there. One way or another it will take an hour to get to a decent spot and if it is close to Isle of Wight it is in the busiest part of the british coastal waters!

Help! We just want to blast around, water ski etc when appropriate and not be upsetting any yachting types. And before the obvious point is made by some sailor, yes we both have our licences and yes we both have in excess of 20 years of experience with power boats (35 in my case!).

Poole harbour has a large waterskiing area, but otherwise a speed limit, plus a good out to sea area thats sheltered in all but easterlies & good access for the IOW & the rest of the Dorset coastline. Quite a few boatyards about.

Cobbs Quay (Poole) has a large dry rack facility and good new washing facilities.
You also get to go past the Sunseeker warehouses

Thanks for the help so far guys although I had rather hoped that someone might be able to offer advice so that I could have a journey time of less than 3 - 4 hours! My trip to Littlehampton will be about 1.5 hours and when juxtaposed against the 40 minute trek to the Medway it is already a bit of a nightmare, especially as there is no guarantee that the sea will be calm when I get there. You see my prob? It's looking like the Medway is still the best option; I was just hoping for a better outlook than industrial sheds and timber tankers in from Norway!

Do any of you guys run powerboats (not gin palaces)out of the south coast?

This is a quote I got from them for a 7.5m powerboat

1) Open Rack System on an annual package which includes unlimited lifts would cost £2,672.85 inc
2) Fully Undercover on an annual package which also includes unlimited lifts would cost £3,916.96 inc
3) A 6 month package for storage only in the Rack System would cost £1,125 inc. The lifts to launch and recover via the forklift will cost £75 inc each way.

More than half the cost of the boat Scooby but thanks for the effort! 25 year old boat with an engine tone to die for, including 4 wheel trailer and other bits, £4k. Mooring at £2800 pa .... too much, notwithstanding the long drive from sarf London.

Try Crableck boatyard or Universal. They are next to each other just up from Moodys.
