Can I ask a huge favour off another Chim owner...

My drivers side door button stopped working. Opened everything up and noticed the metal bar that goes from the button to the mechanism was missing. One quick hunt round the inside later and I found it and refitted it.

I then compared the drivers side to the passenger side. On the passenger side there is a spring about 3 inches long attaching the large metal plate at the back to a metal plate where the rubber sealed cable is connected. This plate has 2 holes, one for the spring and one for the cable.

On the drivers side, there is no spring, but there are 2 cables, one in each hole.

Can someone check theirs for me please and see if there should be a spring on the drivers side? its a 95 model (not sure if this makes any difference)...

I really appreciate this.

Many thanks guys!

I think you'll find that the second cable is the emergency door release and is actually tensioned by a spring at the other end of the cable. The emergency door release only opens the drivers door, that's why there is no second cable on the passenger door.

Is everything working OK now?

Thanks

It appears to be all working, but my worry is if it needs a spring to hold it in place, whats to stop it falling out again...

Ok, looks like I have another problem. The central locking keeps turning itself off, and the door controls keep clicking...
I guess somethings gone a bit wrong in the mechanism. Any suggestions as to what to investigate?

Thanks

Just been out to check mine (also a '95), there is a small plastic clip that holds the metal rod into the lock mechanism - looks pretty much the same as a lot of the Ford ones. It clips in quite firmly and the rod cannot be taken out unless this clip is removed. I dont have a spring on the passengers side - looks like a spring is built in to the lock mechanism.

I had a similar problem with the central locking cycling when the little button on top of the internal door opener got stuck. Might also be a good idea to check the courtesy light switches as these also control the central locking.

Thanks for that.
My metal rod clips into a plastic thing so it looks like it was just bad luck that it fell out. Strange that you don't have a passenger side spring and I do, but I guess thats TVR's all over!

I'll check the courtesy light switches. I'll give them a good clean up and put some fresh rubber pads on them and see what happens...
