I dismantled my old Powerbook today to change the dead hard drive. As part of the disassembly you have to remove four of the F-keys. When removing one of them I managed to snap the little plastic spring mechanism underneath and now it won't go back on.

I rang an Apple shop and they said "Sorry sir, you'll need to buy a whole new keybaord - £100 including fitting". OK, not exactly breaking the bank but its not really worth spending that amount of money on. Besides, I could superglue it onto the rubber button underneath but then I'd never be able to remove it again if I had to.

I'm sure you must be able to get hold of the plastic bits from somewhere - anyone got any suggestions? Apple breakers or something?

These guys have been recommended to me in the past, but I have no experience of them personally. They claim to hold large stocks of spare parts.

Take the middle one out from under the space bar and replace it with that one. That's what I did when I did almost exactly the same thing.

Not sure why - it works for me.

Try it with another slash on the end www.macfixcentre.com/

Which PB have you got?
If it is the 12" one, I have a spare keyboard (with a missing 'T'). I can send you a key if you want one.

Let me know through my profile.
