Been offered an X Type 2.5 sport automatic very cheaply, it's almost up to 60k and due a major service, anyone know what this is likely to cost at a Jaguar main dealer? It's one owner from new and FJSH so would prefer to keep this up.

Phone a dealer and ask! I should thing no more than £500. An X-Type without history is worthless so keep it up.

I will do, but none of the service departments are open until Monday! Wanted to know over the weekend so I could see if the deal was good.

Does a 51 plate 2.5V6 Sport Auto sound like a good deal at £6.5k?

Seems a bargin, but what is the condition of it and the spec and colour? The deal sounds like a great price, whats the catch..........................

A 2.5ltr V6 Sport is around about £7-9k, so is not far off book.

Black, one owner from new and excellent condition. This is what my mate has been offered as a trade in, and I said could I have it for the same price so he can but his new car without the PX being factored in.

A 51 plate falls under the launch year production, the X was revised in 2003 with emphasis on sorting out initial launch problems. You should check the car's dealer history for the following known early x problems and see if they were resolved:-

1. weeping washers
2. Windnoise, front door surrounds
3. Rear boot connection, this was revised 2003 onwards as early models had a tendancy for the boot to be shut but the boot interior light to stay on and hey presto flat battery next morning.
4. Door locks, check both sets of keys and all doors unlock/lock correctly
5. Diff whine from rear, many owners complained of this between 50-70mph and this was revised and replaced under warranty on many early cars.
6. Front wheel settings, they use to be set toe in, now set toe out, otherwise severe wear on inside of tyres, check by full lock both ways on front tyres, outsides can appear perfect insides shot
7. Pads and discs, x is a heavy car in AWD auto model and braking system borrowed from Mondeo, expect new pads every 20 and discs go at front as well, mine replaced at 20k, common thread from many x type owners

That's about it, don't expect more than early 20's mpg, a fully loaded 3.0 AWD auto X weighs in at the same weight as the new ali XJ

Price sounds correct, 2.5 & 3.0 models are out of favour and post 2003 facelift are seen as a better car, wanted are the diesels but they don't come in auto or awd.
If above sorted you might well have a bargain
