Sorry PSC,
The 2.8 is not very tunable. You can do the usual with capacity increase/heads/cam but the gains will be far less than the outlay would warrant.
The siamesed ports will always be a limiting factor.
I did some looking into this a while ago and decided it was not worth the outlay.
The best option is to use the tuning money to swap the engine or upgrade the suspension as handling really can be transformed.

Your'e not alone in these thoughts Steve, Richard at Dulford is fitting a Cossie to an S1 with some nice alloy aftermarket shocks as we speak.
When you consider the cost of a low mileage 24v engine it's rather tempting.
Richard goes the route of 4 delorto's, which is a different route to my guys but apparantly neverless extremely effective.

thanks for the info everyone ,sadly not what i was hoping for,but nothing is ever that simple.i would be interested in the pros and cons regarding the cossie change,also you mentioned the ports is there a three port head available for the 2.8 and if so what is it off.thanks again. paul
Of course there is always Nitrous Oxide.
Not ideal if you want to drive consistently fast but useful for those occasional spirited moments.
Cheaper initially and not too dificult to fit but over time the costs will conitue to rise with use whereas other performance options are paid up front (all-be-it more expensive)and have no further on costs.
Food for thought as probably the easiest solution to increased performance. I am toying with a Caterham or similar for my next toy and an planning to fit NOS for the occasional burst.

heres another one for you guys,exhausts! i have recently taken off the original contraption off my s and welded a wasp back box in the middle,wrong move it is even for a tvr enthuiast like me to LOUD,does anyone know where i can get a good sounding set of boxes from welding them up is no prob its just getting the back pressure right,although i don't know what effect this will have on performance? i owned a wedge for about 13yrs and thought it was time for a change,however the sound from the wedge was 100% better any ideas.thanks paul
IMO the big V8 wedges are the finest sounding cars that TVR ever made, or anyone else come to that. It's something that the rest of us can only aspire to, but getting that sort of sound track from a V6 I think would be quite a trick! Having said that, at S club heaven there were some V6 cars that sounded every bit as good as the V8s.

The cossie 24v engine fits nicely, mates to your existing box but would benefit for an uprated clutch. I produce headers which clear the tvr chassis rails and also make an alternator kit to relocate it. Maddoldbugger can make a bespoke 'S' series loom for the cossie ecu. Cossie engines go for £400 plus but unless you know it's history you are taking a bit of a gamble. If you can drive the engine before you buy then thats better as these are expensive units to revamp.
I have some TT 2.8 stuff here which I'll look at for you.

I can give you ballpark numbers on the stuff, the headers and alternator kit are around £600, madbugger wants about £250.

So all that and an Engine at say £400 - so for about £1250 I could stick a cossie in....
What are the other associated (hidden??) costs - assuming I do the transplant myself, would stick an uprated clutch in (although is this really needed??) I assume the headers will fit the standard exhaust or will the bits in between need fabricating?
And how would these costs compare with having the existing engine ported, polished and re-mapped (ala Podie style)??

Hidden costs, well, there are a few. My headers are just that. You need to make some short link pipes to mate them to your exhausts under the engine. You need to fit lambda's into the pipes and weld on the bosses which you'll probably have to get made. You will need your own alternator belt for the revised alternator position. You should fit a new cossie clutch, release bearing etc. You'll need to fabricate an air filter box or use a K&N. You won't use the pas stuff from the 24v engine.
I can't really think of anything else. Engines are fairly plentiful and if well mantained will run for ever. Timing chest parts are a vulnerability if worn so try to get a good engine in the first place. They are rated at some 200 odd hp as standard so should be lively enough.

My S1 has had a fair bit done to it.
It happened by mistake! when it went into the garage cos it was overheating.
They diagnosed that the main crankshaft bearing shells had seized and freed themselves.
Anyway, I asked them to rebuild the engine in spare time and that "if at any point, there's a performance part that can be fitted for a small increase, give me a ring and I'll decide".
Cutting a very long story short... the car was there for several months, I always had to ring them and the bill was running at low hundreds. Then one day I got a call saying it's ready.
Oh good, I'll come down. Bill = £3.5K, Lot's of arguing, me seeking help from AA legal etc. We compromised at £1.5K. I have receipts for lots of work (lightening, balancing, gas-flowing) that they subcontracted. They even handmade tubular manifolds. Went on rolling road in Gillingham (Dorset) and he calculated (185bhp), but no fancy printout and I don't know if this is at wheels or engine.
It certainly revs much better than before (6500 easy), which means it's in the powerband of the next gear when you change up, so feels much faster. However, it doesn't do "pottering" any more. Used to be able to leave it in 4th at 30mph, no it bunny hops if I try that.
I have details/receipts for all the work (as I never disputed whether it had been done, just whether I'd authorised it!) If anyone's interested I get go into more details.
