My PC runs fine for the majority of the time but anytime I play or stream any video it crashes. It seems worse in media player than realplayer but watching anything will result in a crash >50% of the time. It's doing my head in!!

Any ideas/help gladly received please.

I would say update your video card drivers.

Any chance of telling us what your machine spec is so we have a clue to go on?

Yep.

It's an AMD 1800 CPU, 256MB RAM, Geforce 4 video card and I'm running Windows XP.

Microsoft says that 256MB of RAM is the minimum amount for XP, which means with 256MB you can turn the PC on and thats about it, as mentioned above I would update your video drivers if not current but I would also invest in more RAM.

How much memory does your Gforce video card have, 64MB, 128MB, 256MB?

128 is the minimum www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/evaluation/sysreqs.mspx allthough of course more is allways better.

Possibly the codec being used to stream the video, try something like the k-lite codec pack here:

K-lite Codecs They're free btw!

Gforce card has only 64MB. I've updated the drivers and it still does it. Used to work fine but can't play games etc on it now.

Sounds like a driver/codec corrupt somewhere, you tried updating the motherboard drivers? Sound card?

All else fails, backup reinstall.
