I know I'm being lazy by asking this here, but what is the fastest/best way of finding out if the Ring is open on a certain day? I'm at Spa on 30 and 31 May, I was hoping that the Ring might be open on 1 June. How do I find this out please? TIA.
jonny, according to Des 964 RS..
"Ring public days should be 26,27,28 and pm 29 May received mail this morning from Ring"
I'm off to Spa for the 30th (only!) [1st time in my 993 Targa] and intend hitting the ring on the 28th and 29th..
regards

Looking at the timetable by julesperry, it looks like most public days are over weekends. Is that right? Is it therefore unlikely that Thursday 1 June will be an open day?
Yes - it is true that if you want a full public day then the most likely days are weekends (in fact Sunday is much more common than Saturday). The Ring is often open from 17:15 ish to 19:30 on weekdays too - and in fact is much less crowded and, often, more enjoyable.
Last year the Ring was not open to the public for the two days before (i.e. Wed/Thu) Rock-am-Ring

from n'ring website:
"From 2006 there will be new restrictions regarding noise emission. Further information will be published on this website or at the entries of Nordschleife at the start of the season (March 2006)."

PS Iggy, where are the 'unofficial' dates found?!

I was there when it happened... The driver was picking up speed with each lap and decided not to brake after the jump Overcorrected the slide. The good thing was that he was unhurt...

aaaah, is that the corner where you brake just before and the after you come a little airborne ??
Got to be the best place to scare the sh1t out of a 1st time Ring Virgin Passenger !!!

Yes glenn, it's Pflanzgarten - or Flange-garden as th english tourists call it.
It's not overly scary compared to:
1) Schwedenkreuz if they know the ring (nasty fast left with bump near crest)
2) Fuchsrohe if they don't (fast downhill twisty section with the 'roller coaster' compression)
or memorable as
Karussell (sp?) - more than 180 degree banked corner

the 'foxhole' is one of the best corners there.. flat all the down which is more like the big dipper ! and then up the 'hill' short stab on the brakes as you flick left carrying as much speed as possible.... took me at least a day to a flow to that section... but could never do that at 100%..
and of course hoping that there ain't a fallen rider or an oil slick greeting you around the turn as you flick into oit at over 100 ! otherwise you're **********!
can't wait for the return during the May Spa trip !

hoho
fergus... hello wuddy !
now I would ask if you have any ring trips planned, but I know that is a yes already !
but are you out there at the end of may ? same time as the autotrack spa dates, etc
