Ok, I admit it, I've neglected her outdoors for far too long!

Been made to sit under a car cover for months in the cold and wet and for that I can only apologise Work and other stuff conspired against me. Resulting in damp interior, green stuff round her windows, and an understandably very grumpy Wedge!

Grumpy in that she won't start Now I wouldn't be too troubled by this, but I'm moving house next weekend and she could do with moving too!!

How can you encourage a grumpy Wedge to start?! I have petrol and a spark at my plugs, but not even the slightest cough of life!

Dave

PS Hello to all again after a long silence!

This happened to mine in the autumn,if its the same? then remove the intake hose from the plenum, if there is loads of petrol in there then you have probably flooded the thing trying to start it? if so wedge the throttle butterfly open and leave it to evaporate, reconnect plenum hose, disconnect the cold start injector electrical plug and try and start it following the std procedure for a flooded engine as per manual.

Fresh petrol, clean plugs and a fully charged battery.

I was starting to think I might have drowned it! There's not much in the inlet, but left hose detached and plugs out for a bit. I'd left it with hardly any petrol in when abandoned, so have added a couple of cans of fresh in. Might squirt some other flamable substances in the inlet

Think I'll put the plugs in the oven for a while with my sunday dinner!

It's got a week to start or it gets left on the drive

thanks to both
Dave

Ah, there's life in her yet, nearly started! Plugs in the oven, gas mark 3 Squirt of carb cleaner in the inlet and a good few coughs and splutters Flattened the battery again so I'll have to have another go tomorrow.........

cheers

Sounds like what you need is a Gunsons Starter Charger. Connect it up to your flat or dubious battery and switch it to boost, wait ten minutes and you should have enough power to churn over for a short while. If that doesn't get it going then another ten minute boost will give you another go. Repeat until success. Your ten minute tea breaks also ensure you don't cook the starter motor. One of the best 30 quid I've spent on tools.

Could be stuck injectors Dave. Try a tablespoon of petrol down each bore, heat the plugs on the cooker and bang them in quick. Then spin it over. If it fires straight off then you know it's not fuelling properly.
What you could try is getting someone to lift the aiflow meter flap right up while you crank it: that'll increase the fuel pressure behind the injectors and might unstick them if that's the problem. Of course they'll have to let the flap down if it catches or it'll rev to the skies...

Probably needs a new engine Dave! Still got the Cosworth Scorpio (just) if you're interested.

You could try the AA method.

Jump start (other engine running) - so plenty of battery power.

Turn her over full throttle that clears out the old fuel and she will go..

I'd also remove the cold start lead (plenum drivers side front).

Good luck.

Thanks all, I appreciate suggestions and she will start

Not had chance to try today as I've just got the keys to our new house and spent the evening trying to make the central heating work, only to discover the LPG tank is empty, doh! Still, I do get 3 garages now, a workshop and a studio, so the Wedge will be happy!

If it doesn't start with normal means I'm going to hook her up to the tank (ahem diesel Mondeo, ahem) with jump leads and crank over till I get some action! Whilst trying all the rest of the suggestions until one works!

I won't answer all your replies yet as that'd just get dull, but suggestions are appreciated and I'm sure at least one will work!

cheers
Dave

PS Stop trying to tempt me with that engine, you know I want it really, you bad lad

I'd get shot if I brought another car home

Still not started, but mainly because I haven't tried for a while, been too busy admiring my new garages

I wondered what you were on about Rog! But thought I best not say say anything in case it was something we'd talked about and I'd forgotten

Anyway, result! She started and sounds gorgeous! Now all I need to figure out is how to get a Midget in the back of a Luton, I have a plan..........

The Midget is a work in progress! Everything's up with it would perhaps be the most honest answer. Tax free beast, bought very cheaply, needs plenty of new panels welding in, painting, everything reconditioned and put back together again........

Thanks for the offer, is much appreciated. I could have done with it towing the Vectra up the hill to my house, poor Turbo Tractor Mondeo yelled out in pain.

But, if you've ever wondered if you can put an MG Midget into the back of a Luton van Now you know, of course you can Picture will follow when I find my camera again! Hire company would have a fit if they saw it! I knew the tailift was up to it, ahem!!

Sorry to highjack the thread -- but I think may have a similar problem to York33.
Started it up for a run out at the weekend... it fired ok, filled it up with fuel... got about 2 miles down the road, and it started coughing & spluttering and died..
It won't even fire now.. doesn't appear to be sparking..
The HT leads are all attached, and the alternator was dry, and that's about the limit of my knowledge
I had a problem before where the immobiliser was cutting the engine out after a short time, but it was at least allowing me to start the car.
Any ideas gratefully received as I had to leave it in a less than desirable location

Not another case of BP Ultimate diesel
Patrick you'd be better to start a new thread so it doesn't get lost down here.
