997S Dilema - Advice please.

I am getting withdrawal symptoms.
Since selling my GT3 in October I have been trying to find a used 997S in my preferred spec. This is proving difficult, as the main spec option I want is the -20mm chassis. There are and have been some cars around, but they seem to have an odd list of other options and around 10k miles, as they tend to be ex Porsche GB cars.
So the dilemma is this. Do I carry on looking for a used one or order new for delivery in March(ish)? The new car would cost around £72k with the options that I would like. It is the £10k plus instant depreciation that is stopping me..........
I currently have my name at the top of the list for a new 997GT3, but won't take that car until next spring (if at all). So the 997S is a possible temporary car until the new GT3 comes or may be kept longer if I decide against the new GT3.
So more patience or sign on the dotted line for a new one?

First things first, don't compromise on what you want re the -20mm - sounds like you'll not do that in any case but i know how bewildering it can be looking for the right car.
Choice seems simple. Take the £10k hit or keep searching.
I'd hazard a guess and say that as the GT3 and turbo variants come out or come closer, there'll be people who won't mind taking the depreciation hit and will chop all sorts of 997Ss in to get their hands on the next car.
You might have to wait a while but think about it this way, £10k can see you through a good few years of trackdays....

Keep your eyes peeled - there are some nicely spec'd cars around...eg -20/LSD, PCCB, sport exhaust equipped cars for exGT3 addicts!
I find motortrak, autotrader and porsche.co.uk are the best places to look.

Its 70k! They seem to have forgotten its a second hand car thats probably been used for their driver education on track for every one of those 10k miles

Cant find this car via the link. However I suspect that I seen it already. Probably a red one with sunroof and other odd spec like cruise and rear wipe.
So waiting for the right car is the way to go. Only trouble is how long?

PCCB's are not a deal breaker, just nice to have. But would not spec them new due to cost.
I don't know much about your car other than it has -20mm and a Tubi. Oh and you seem to like going sideways on track days. If you are serious then tell me more about your car - no harm done either way.

My car is a year old this month (54) and has 10k miles on it. Specced to the absolute minimum because every extra I saw in the Porsche catalogue struck me as either weighty or pointless on a sports car.
So it has -20mm and is Basalt Black/black leather with Sports design wheels and a Tubi (which I absolutely love the sound of).If you wanted Porsche Sat-nav that is retro fittable but I use a Tom Tom and find that just as good.
It has been on 2 trackdays both in the wet (saves tyre wear) and on mainly long drives to Europe and back.
I would sell it because I have to get an Audi/Elise (300bhp) out of my system and can't park any more cars at my place.

Had the same problem, did not want to take the depreciation, could not find the right one.

I'm looking for a similar spec car. The only -20mm ones I can find are red ones at OPC - sounds suspiciously like press cars or something. I want a black one, minimum spec. There seem to be lots of black -20mm ones in LHD at German dealers. Very high spec, and quite low prices. I'm also debating whether to wait for the right one in RHD to turn up, or to go for a LHD black one and save a packet.

Thanks for the details, as suspected your car is not quite right for me spec/colour wise. No offence in anyway - I'm sure you understand. I may be being a bit picky, but crono, bose and a few other bits do appeal to me.
I have to say though, your spec is actually very sensible as it is all to easy to order mega spec and see nothing back for it come resale/trade in time. Nav is an interesting one. Like you I don't need it, but dealers say it is a must on new spec cars, but don't seem to make any fuss about it when trying to sell a used one without it. I think everybody should boycott nav and buy TomToms. Eventually they it will become standard spec - like air con and leki windows.

From what I can gather most of these cars are ex-press/demo cars - hence the weird mix of spec and colour (PCCB's, -20mm, sunroof, cruise, short shift, no bose, rear wipe etc). Not sure I want a LHD. As I said in my opening post my ideal car is £72 new. Don't mind spending it, but don't like the idea of loosing a big lump of it on trade in. My last two Porsches have only cost me £5K between them in total depreciation (993C2S and GT3RS) over a 3-year period. Maybe I have been lucky and I should just shut up and order a new one. After all a potential £15k over 4 years and three cars is not too serious.
If you want black RHD and minimum spec see jjr1 above - may be worth a look.

Jcosh I totally agree about the Sat-nav game that the OPC's play. I deliberately shunned all those options as an experiment to see when it comes to selling the car if it will be tough. My last car i specced so high there wasn't any options not on the list and when it came to sell I took a serious bashing. One extreme to the other with me
