No idea if this will be any good, but it's presented by our favorite politician so could be worth a watch

Yep, will be watching this, might buy his book. He was on great form on breakfast TV this morning too with Marr & Greer.

It's pretty good.

Boris' French is not bad as well.

Best of Top Gear on at 9, and apparently there is only one this series. Probably won't have the full 32 minutes of the Veyron race, then.

There's already been one or two Best Of Top Gears for this series IIRC, the last one had the SLR race on i think.

And yes, good program, this Rome one...

Cheers,
Rob.

Watching Boris now and it's very well presented. He may be seen as a twit but I like him, certainly more then some other politicians.

Fair emough.

Must be re-running most of the last series again, then.

"Look how efficient and 'small state' the Romans were compared to the E.U."
"Look how small the level of taxation was compared with the E.U"
"Look at all the great stuff they built without using lots of public finance, using slave labour"
"They even gave welfare to the old folks, except the slaves"

Enjoyed the program anyway though, well done Boris, not as much of a klutz as I previously thought! No mention of slaves in his reprise on R4 this morning however...

Get rid of these useless time and money wasting europratts!

And get a load of unpaid slaves to generate the wealth surplus! Easy.

Does this sudden insight call some of your other beliefs into question?

Where as at the moment we have a large group of paid lay abouts soaking up the surplus wealth created by the rest of us.....

It was an interesting programme, although some of Boris's parallels with modern europe were rather spurious.

Yes, my entire philosophy and outlook on life has been changed in a Paulian Damascus Road experience brought about by Boris' insights into the historical comparison of Rome and the E.U.

You may note I edited my post this morning to comment on how Boris' enthusiasm for the way Romans ran things on R4 this morning deftly overlooked the main fuel the Empire ran on; free human energy, AKA slavery. The modern equivalent, low wage economies, as practised by Tory govt's who like to keep unemployment high enough to make sure peoples noses stay applied to the grindstone bear some similarities...

So no, my outlook hasn't changed that much after all.
