Look at it this way:-

A standard 60 minute DV tape holds 12.5GB of data. Cost £3.

2 GB CF card. Cost £70.

Point taken!

Sony DCR-HC90 (or the new one coming out in Feb)

or

Panasonic NV-GS250 (or the new 300 but that doesn't have AV-in where the 250 does)

At least I have gotten it down to a shortlist of 2 (or 4)

Any respective owners care to review?

Can't say I know muh about either of them....but you MUST have AV-IN (not just DV-IN)! Once you've got a bullet cam you'll be hooked. I've even got video of the exhaust bracket on the Noble, taken inside the engine bay, driving around Essex to see how much it moves.

It's the compressed MPEG2 format that is the bane of these camcorders. As soon as capacity improves to, say, 20gb at true hard drive speeds and the capture format is changed to true DV-AVI (or similar uncompressed format) then we will see a real replacement for tapes.

DV is still compressed. Quite a bit in fact (5:1 rings a bell). I'd be happy with MPEG2 if the bit rate was high, and like you say there's more than a floppies worth of storage on the cam
