The wheels on my 96 4.2 have a 3" step on the face that mates with the hub, whereas I have obtained a spare set of wheels, all four of which have 225x50 tyres fitted (probably ex. SP6 cerb) and they only have a 2.5" step so they don’t fit! has anyone else heard of this?

I haven't, but being a TVR it's all too possible. Suggest you ring the factory and ask.

Seems strange, the 2.5" centre bore was for the Ford 4 stud hubs as per the Griffith & Chimaera and the 3" bore was for the Cerbera? Rich...

If you mean the diameter on the hub, i had 3 wheels on the car with a 3inch dia loc'n and one with a ring inserted in it which took it down to 2/13 sixtiths, this one located on the hub great and the other 3 could locate anywhere depending on where the wheel tightened up. Instead of going back to the dealer i made my own inserts as i thought it would be less bother, all now locate ok.
Oh and mine is a Sp6 and i made them out of aluminum .
