As Sunday 5th February is the first race in the championship I've spent a little time today practising with various cars (rather than being boring with the 906 that I always have). I'm currently leaning towards the Pantera.

It's a beast of a car to drive, but very fast in a straight line. So far I can lap within 1/2 a second of the 906 but it throws me off quite regularly whereas I can 'go all night' with the 906. I'll decide what to use in a few days if I can get it more reliable.

Best lap so far is 1:46

Haven't had a chance since last night, I've been working!

will have a bash tonight though. I like the GT40 now but its too slow so I may try the pantera. It's probably a choice between that, the 911 and the escort for me.

For me the 911 is the most consistant, how consistant = boring and so some practiing with others this week may be in order.

However, again Not Boring = Falls off a lot, and Falls off a lot = No points, so that may a consideration.

I don't think the 911 is boring, it's just a very predictable car! I think that makes it pretty fun... it has proepr modern (radial) slicks on it so it has loads of grip too. I had loads of fun in it last night, it's just that everyone else had one too! It's much harder to pass someone in the same car as you.

How about the stupidly powerfull Corvette that does 160mph+, it's hiding in the Corvette listings and has more power than anything else.

Having said that I practiced Donington National yesterday and lapped the BMW CSL, Escort, Porsche 906, Daytona Cobra, GT40 and Capri within 0.5secs of each other on the default settings.....hmmmmm now that makes the decision difficult.

Just had one lap round in a few cars, and so far

906 is 1:45.5
Escort is 1:49 (Never have got used to it)
Pantera 1:45.8 (Had a twinging cramp is my right foot towards the last 2 corners that might have slowed me down )

May choose either Pantera, 906, or possibly Griff. The Austin Healey goes quite unnoticed but is very good! Is that allowed?

Think I've thrown the Capri round in 1:43.7, but I struggle to be consistent enough and keep it on the black stuff.

Is no-one else going to go in the '65 class?

I only ask because I want to go '65, but if no-one else does then a little championship all on my own isn't really much fun.

I find it a difficult choice between lap times vs crashing

I'm quickest in the GT40 and Pantera but my lap times are more consistent in the Capri or CSL. Dont really like the Porkers, not sure why, I just dont seem to be able to lap quickly OR consistently!

I think my best time was in the 1:47's...more work to do

I am up for '65
Is it only the GTC-65? If so... hmm.. I will do some practice and let you know.

Race what you want dave but I've a feeling if you go in an Alfa or Cortina you'll spend your whole race watching your mirrors!

I'm currently trying to decide whether to try to master the gt40, or to go for slow and steady in something like the elan or ferrari.

It's the 906 for me - must remeber to actually load the set-up though. Last night I forgot to do it on the second race and was 4 seconds of my times the previous race.

best so far is a low 1'45.

I'm currently doing 42's in the pantera and 45's in the escort.

edit: make that 40's

I have a best of 1:44 now, and then did 10 laps at a relaxed pace which were all in the 1:46's

Another hour of practice, can't decide between 3 cars in the 76's - Pantera, 906 or Capri. Fastest in the Pantera with the other two so far about a second off but a lot better on the brakes, in the race that might count.

Best so far a 1m40.8s in the Pantera with replay here - www.mercia.biz/GTL/Anderstorp_FWD_1m40-8s.Vcr

If I race the 65's it'll either be the GT40, Daytona Coupe or Griffith.

needs more - camber I think (stand to be corrected) saying that I could not get the front to bite enough in the De Tomaso so reduced grip at rear so I could steer with the rear, eats tyres that way though, I was losing 2secs a lap for the last two laps

by which time my pressuring Ian was probably making him laugh

might try the porker........

After last nights shennanigans I now have a best of just into the 1:43s, but my reliable racepace is still 1:45 or 1:46. I like the Pantera now, it can still bite you if you put the power down early, and the brakes are shite, but if you do get in front of a much faster car it's great fun keeping them behind you on the straights and making the car very wide in the corners. Adam pulled off a great move going round the outside last night

I think I will plump for Pantera for the whole season, the 911 is much faster and easier to drive and I think one of them will win the Championship, but the Pantera is a lot of fun (sounds great too)
