As the title suggests.

I had my first AA journey back from Didcot last night. Symptoms were a pronounced clunk from the rear end when getting on or off the power. After a few miles of that it developed into a grinding noise similar to worn pads rubbing against discs.

Having lookd underneath, the prop UJ's seem fine but I could see rather too much oil on the underside of the body tub just above the nose of the diff. I've a feeling that an oil seal may have failed causing the diff to run dry. I'm just suprised that in the space of 70 miles it could go from a clunking noise to what it is now.

I'm taking it over to Silverstone Performance for them to assess. Looks like I'll be making my first claim on the AA warranty.

didcot!!! where i live lol! ive noticed a similar prob on mine the other day, a clunk when pulling away, or when reversing a bit. Ive put it down to a broken diff mount, but havnt jacked the car up yet to check it out! how much was the AA warranty btw? sounds like a good idea!

Around £150 ish depending on subscription options. If you are already AA member then 60 notes and it's yours.

Cheers for the reminder.. I've just signed up. Been meening to do this for a while.

toady-Mine comes loose regulaly and has your exact symptons so I reckon you are right-its most likely to be the top mounts coming loose. An absolute pig to tighten but not expensive

I had all three diff bushes changed and the new bracket fitted for £420 including VAT. I think I got a bargain as it took ages to do!

Well how spooky is this Dave.

Just had SP on the phone and my bracket has self-destructed as well. Must be the way we drive them!

Did you source your bushes from Joolz? (Can't remember if there are uprated bushes for the diff.) Seem to remember something along those lines.

Needless to say, they are having a nightmare getting one of the bushes out. They don't think the Diff is broken which is good news. One of the CV's has been scored where metal on metal contact has been made. That might be the noise I was hearing.

Hopefully the AA cover will just about pay for this one! Hurrah.

I picked the car up from Silverstone Performance yesterday. 180 miles later it is driving like a dream. What I thought was poor throttle response at small throttle openings has gone. It must have been snatch in the drive-train due to the bushes and bracket being knackered. Seems really smooth now with no clunkiness.

I had the front diff seal replaced as apparently it was weeping fluid. The seal was about £50 on its own but its worth it.

Cost was a bit more than others have quoted. (9.5 hours labour @ £45 per hour) plus parts. After replacing the top bush and bracket they put everything back together to test drive it in order to make sure that the diff was OK. Once that had been confirmed, everything then had to come off to replace the last two bushes and front diff seal. I was told that they spent alot more time on the car than what I was billed for. I can believe that!

I'll be returning the car to them for a 12000 mile service soon and have soom Avo's fitted to the rear.
