The 240R is less than the sum of its parts. Not to mention lotuses performance figures for it were clearly optimistic. They have back tracked radically on the claims now that they are selling other variants with the same drive train. Remember the Exige was on AO48s too!
Good car, but wickedly overpriced for what you get.
Havings said that VBH couldn't string together a consistent lap if she tried, so the Exige should have done better than it did. Especially with those tyres.

Yep thats simply down to the water and the fact the topgear track flatters Elises due to the short straight. I lost count of how many Exiges I went past on Sat at Bedford and I'm not a particularly talented wheelsman. Looked like they were in reverse...

the lotus doesnt have the straight line speed, but due to the much lower weight will be faster around the corners (esp. slow corners). Which is faster overal depends on the balance between straights and corners.
For example, not suprised a GT3 is faster around spa, but I bet it is a different story at a track like Cadwell Park.

Don't be silly, a GT3 would destroy it just about anywhere. Its having trouble competing with a 997S let alone a GT3.

When I had my elise which was an S1 111s - so very different from a 240R - i did quite a few days at bedford, a number with RMA and had tuition from a guy called Alan Overy. He owns(ed) a 111s and said that at Bedford he could keep up with / pass everything even some GT3's. But this is an elise being driven by a guy who is a very skilled wheelsman / racer, in his own admission would give the elise no mercy and have smoke pouring off the brakes when he pitted vs a GT3's driven by enthusiasts like most people on this forum.
The Elise is quick no question about it but it has to be driven well to carry the maximum amount of speed through the corners to give it any real chance against something like a GT3 etc
Lotus - plenty fun to drive, cheaper, wouldnt want to hit anything in one.
Porsche - plenty fun to drive, more expensive, stand a chance if hit anything - if roll cage and harnesses, better chance.
On trackdays, there have been a few incidents in the last year or so with serious injuries and fatalities here and across the pond. Got to remember we are going some at trackdays, the better youre safety equipment, the safer you are.

Dan, totally agree but like i said the guy was a race driver and was prepared to whip the car within an inch of its life. I hadn't witnessed it admittedly but I wasn't in any position to doubt him.
Singh911, from personal experience, be in no doubt about the strength of the Elise, I had a 70mph impact with the central barrier on the m-way, tore the front end off, wheels, radiator etc. From the windscreen back you couldn't tell. I was able to put the hazards on whilst it was still spinning ;-). I walked away amazed at the lack of injury. If I can do the same in the 964 I will be happy.

My skepticism is just based on the fact that I used to have an Elise, and tracked it a fair bit. I now have an RS and the standard Elises looked like they were in reverse on Saturday.
If that guy really is that quick, he'd be even more devastating in a GT3
Not to mention that a mk1 Elise with a Honda engine transplant is a whole different kettle of fish! Should be a fair bit faster on a twisty track with a good driver than the new Exige (even supercharged) as it's nearly 300 kg lighter and nearly as much power...
Just trolling, but if you're sad like me and have a bunch of downloaded videos of in-car track driving (e.g. Nurburgring laps), which ones do you play just to hear the engine noise?
With me, it's sure as hell not the Lotuses, but the noise of the GT3 round the 'ring is just awesome...
