My D60 has suddenly gone pear shaped in the AF department - just hunts around. Sometimes finds focus if I centre on a very bright object, or an area of high contrast - though it's not really that dependent on light or dark.

Anyone had this before?

I've sent it off for checking but don't want to be snowed by the service centre

Does it have an AF assist light? If so is it working/disabled?

My 20D starting doing this Christmas morning. It turned out to be a fault with the lens, specifically the auto-focus motor was found to be at fault. All of which was sorted by Canon under warranty in about 7-days. Which was good as it was actually about 20 days out-of-warranty. So I'd try a different lens first...
