It is a great day out - I have been for 3 of the last 4 years though so am giving it a miss this year, as it is pretty similar year on year. You will have an excellent time whichever day you choose. Apparently the Fri/Sat are quieter (I always go Friday) but it is a sell out on all days now I think, so it probably makes little difference. The big name drivers are usually present on the Sunday - less so on the other days. There are more free practices on the Friday, so you might get to see more cars on track. It takes a full day up, if you want to wander around the trade stands too. Wandering around the pits is probably the best part of the whole experience for me.

I don't know Sam. I'm not so bothered about seeing them set times as long as you see all the cars on the Saturday that you would if you went on the Sunday. Not too bothered about celebreties either!
As far as I know everything important (ie the cars) is there, the same on all 3 days. The celebs turn up on Sunday I imagine, which might draw some of the crowd from the cars, perhaps.

Friday is marginally quieter, but you really do need to go on a Saturday or Sunday as not all the cars run on the Friday. I splash out on a grandstand seat now because it is busy and its nice to have a wander round and then come back and see some of the action
The FOS is a fantastic weekend and well worth doing. I’ve been to this for many years now and I would advise avoiding the Sunday as it gets very busy and without wanting to sound ‘up ones own’ you get the true enthusiasts on the Friday and Saturday.
It’s worth getting a stand seat although I like to stand down by the start line watching some truly outstanding cars being given a boot full off the line. The Revival is a good weekend of course but the FOS really does throw up some real rarities and even without think to hard the Rover BRM gas turbine powered car made and appearance a couple of years ago, you really couldn’t believe what a treat that was. The Brabham fan car owned by his Bernieness, Baby Bertha, the list is endless.
What’s more, if you get a car entered into the Cartier Concourse you get free entry and hospitality for you and 10 guests apparently, now that’s well worth spending the money on an extremely expensive restoration isn’t it?

I've been for the last six or seven years on a Sunday. But last year went on the Saturday and it seemed much less crowded, and there was no downside. I'd definately go on Saturdays from now. I think some people go on the Sunday (me included for the first couple of years) because having the 'offical' timed runs, somehow it must be better. But on Saturday I seem to recall someone drove into something at speed, so they were obviously trying then as well! The only difference I can think of is that they usually have the Red Arrows to close things on a Sunday, so it depends how bothered you are about that I suppose.

I am off to Goodwood FOS for the first time this year. Can anyone tell me what is different about each day please. Which is best, Saturday or Sunday? I heard that Sunday is best, but if so, how much better than Saturday is it?

The main difference is that on Sundays you worship the Porsche and other craven images, in the Church of the PCGB.

Yep my dad was in the Style et Lux Cartier event last year, came second. Was judged by Jeremy Clarkson & me & a mate got into the hospitality bit. We didn't go to the official dinner, but my dad tells me that Boris Becker & David Coulthard were on the next table to them plus several other sports / celebs too.
I agree will all of the above, all three days great. But good luck trying to stay the night anywhere near, Lord March has is booked up all hotels and B&Bs for years ahead. I tried to book a B&B after the 2005 event for the 2006 event to stay for the weekend, and the receptionist asked if I was part of Lord March's party - sadly I had to say no and I was turned away!
Also if you want to risk it, 1 or 2 months before hand for the last 5 or so years the Sunday Times has given away free tickets for the Friday, which are usually passed around on here (check old threads!)(only two per household mind!)
Generally I would say the nearer to Sunday you go the more cars, but also the more people!

I believe he must own the yellow Vallelunga featured in this months Octane magazine then? Aa DB 4 Zagato came first iirc
On the accommodation front we stayed in Arundle for the weekend last year and got in without much problem.
Having been on different days over the years, i'd never go on a weekend again if it can be helped. The place is so much more humane with less people, you can actually get a decent look at the cars, chat to ppl etc etc, have a nice drive down there (early doors), park sensibly. Saturday and sunday is just mad, getting there, parking, heaving with ppl.
Having said that, any day is better than none!
