I've just reformatted my hard drive. Got everything back on, all the passwords back in, system running smooth and quick, just what the doctor ordered.

Just gone to close the browser and get a click and ding.

FFS, don't say I have to start all over. I'll kick it if I have to sit here for another two hours.

What exactly has happened, my browser clicks and dings a bit when little popup windows appear etc?

Please elaborate.

All ok.

Dunno what happened, but when i went to close the browser, hit the x in the corner, but just dinged, didn't close.

Had to ctrl-alt-del to close the prog down but since then everything seems to be working fine.

Bloody computers, pain in the arse.

Sounds like you had a dialogue box open (username/password one would be an example) and that had focus.

The "ding" means that you can't close the main window without closing the open dialogue box first.

Alternativly (although unlikely) is that the browser had actually crashed.

Start it again, do nothing, and then close it down - if it works OK then it means you probably gone to a site that asked for a username/password that you hadn't entered a valid one or hit cancel.

Various porn sites are good examples of sites that do this

However if your browser begins with "N" and ends in "e" then it almost certainly has crashed. This is whats known as a 'feature' of the product, repeatable infinite times per day.
