Broken Diff mount.

Doom and gloom, the front right diff mount has snapped and the diff is sagging on the front right. The diff is obviously going to be removed, does it drop out under the car? as I can find no reference in the bible for removal. Once its off, can these mounts be welded or will I need to scource another diff, any help gratefully recieved as I have no knowledge on the diff, cheers

The front of the diff is held in place with a single long bolt that passes right through the top of the diff, between two chassis brackets. I would guess that either the bolt has sheared, or one of the chassis brackets is broken and can probably be welded. Unlikely that you need a new diff.

Thanks for the pic, on the front of the diff in your pic there is a silver coloured beam with a bolt and a rubber bush at each end. The bolt is still in place and the diff has dropped away from the bolt and I can see where it has snapped. Is that silver beam part of the diff or the chassis.

Neither. The chassis bits on that car are blue. The diff is also blue. The silver beam is a separate cradle that is bolted to the chassis through rubber bushes, and to the diff with the single long bolt I mentioned before (I sort of implied that the diff was mounted to the chassis - sorry - I was trying to keep it simple)

If it's the long bolt that's snapped you might be able to jack the diff into position and get another bolt in without dismantling anything else, if you're lucky.

If it's the short bolt in the rubber bushes, again you should be able to get another bush in without dismantling too much - it's fiddly but should be do-able. I don't know what the bush is, for ordering a new one though.

Tvrgit you have helped a great deal you mentioned the seperate cradle, the siler beam. It is this cradle that has split, so the long bolt is okay, as are the two other bolts and the bushes, looks like a new cradle or even get it welded, thanks again.

I would suggest welding is probably the best (and maybe the only) option.

Tvrgit, I have just seen a pic of the cradle, page 196 in the bible what a numpty. Thanks for your advise and pics. It does look like a welding job, I will put the results on here when I get it sorted. Thanks again mate

That's not mine mate, it just happened to be a picture I remembered of a restoration in progress by V8 Sports up here in Scotland. As I say I was there when they were taken, that's my only claim to fame! It is a beautiful job though.
