UPDATE 2ND FEBRUARY 2006 - IMPORTANT

I have today been in contact with the OPC concerned - and it is clear that I misunderstood the terms of the deal being offered, and therefore have no doubt that I owe them an apology, which I am posting here and now. It is clear that I fundamentally misunderstood the terms of what was being offered, and therefore wish to clarify this point - the fault for this lies with me and I am quite prepared to admit that I made a mistake.

As you know I am regularly on here defending OPCs and their services (and I take a lot of stick for it!!) - I am quite preapred to confirm that on this occasion the contents of this post were not correct, and I offer an unreserved apology to those concerned.





Now, I am realist, and I have always defended OPCs to the hilt.

But TODAY..........


I went to an OPC and was offered £22k for my car (just serviced by OPC 100 miles ago, 13 months Porsche warranty remaining, brand new tyres...), which I purchased from the OPC network a year ago for £38k.

So that is £16k in twelve months then is it.....

Looks like when someone in an OPC deems a car of a certain age/milage/spec as 'outside the OPC window' they make it pretty clear with the trade price they offer. Allowing for the retail / trade varience that is still a ridiculously low trade in offer. Yours seems a £32k car retail so even at OPC margins that is £28k trade.

Suggest you keep it and keep smiling at how good a £22k car feels to drive!

I was in exactly the same situation as you at the start of January, bought my car 12 months ago 38k offered 24 1/2k for it.

It seemed to me that it was all down to mileage, I guess 57000 miles for 7 year old car with FSH @ OPC is a dodgey deal.

No point going for an outright sale to a stealer. Chop it against the next car if you can't face going private, or chop it in with an independent who is more in touch with this part of the market. OPCs seem to only really stock pretty new stuff.

911virgin.com are happy to announce they will beat the main dealer`s offer by a generous £500 AND you don`t even have to buy a car off us.

I know, how do we do it. Well if the truth be known sir we`ll probably be losing money on the deal..... no body buys these anymore / wrong colour / too many miles / too few owners / too recently serviced / wrong sort of air in the tyres / ashtray too full / wrong station on the stereo / too heavily photographed. (Take your pick and delete as appropriate).

Not only that but we have unlimited funds for as many other cars as you lot can bring round at those prices !

Off to place my order for the new Bell Jet Ranger with monogrammed crystal decanters and matching walnut Humidor.

To be fair though, its just market forces. If people are willing to take the loss to trade up to another car, this silliness will continue.

Its a bit like the price of clothe in Harvey Nichols - my wife bought me a £850 Zegna coat for my birthday - at the 70% off price of £250~ish. But, there are folk who will have paid £850 for it, which is why its that silly price in the first place.

I'm just jealous because I can't charge £425 for a copy of total911....
