have a look on www.dvapower.co.uk and the link to the K series engine page...if you havnt fitted and timed cams before Id recommend paying someone to do it..if you get wrong it can be pretty bad

I used Lakeside engineering in Woking at the top of the M3. They fitted veniers to my sport 160 and re-timed it. Looks like a bit of a black art and takes a long time. Once it was done though, my rough idle changed into a perfectly smooth tick over. Way better than the standard setup. Power didnt really change but it doesnt jump around at all anymore when you drive around town.

If the cam is much different the car will need to be remapped anyway. Am surprised you get a better idle with a different cam without any other change!?

You should have, or be able to obtain, a spec sheet for the cams. You will need to find out the duration, overlaps, lift etc. It's worth finding a decent specialist to do this for you if you've never done this before.

To enable you to get the best out of the cams, you need to change things like fuelling. The timing will be set as part of installing the cams. The ECU will probably need remapped as well to compensate - if you can find someone who builds race or rally engines, they should be able to help you.

I sort of watched from the sidelines when my hillclimb car was set up - it's a logical process to set it up, but I don't have the mechanical know-how to do it myself. If you can get a copy of a Dave Walker or a Vizard book, this will explain the principles of cam timing better than I ever could.

After hearing your car at NWeald I'm considering this (although I love the lumpiness really).

2 questions I forgot to ask you:
a) Does it improve cold start?
b) Roughly how much did it cost for the verniers and retime?

Cheers, T
