Having just replaced the C.V. joints on the car I was pleased with the car, recently struck a sunken manhole cover and noticed a clunking sound from the rear of the car. Further investigation revealed a broken diff mount Now I have had a gutsfull of our shabby roads I may give the local council a call poxy roads etc. Dont think it will do any good unless I claim for damages to the car, they will probably just repair the manhole cover and make the proceedings for a claim real awkward.

If you are going to try to claim off the council, you will have to be very persistent.
I tried because the wheel of an Alfa GTV I owned was wrecked by a pothole, I complained and they sent me a photo of the area where the incident happened.
They then sent a reply and stated not our hole that one belongs to B.T. I approached them and received a reply not ours that one belongs to DWR Cymru and so it goes on: I gave up on it!

Steve,

I empathise with you completely! My Chim500 has Nitron's all round and on just about any road in swansea other than the M4 my teeth chatter! The state of our roads in South Wales are horrendous! and I curse the F*** council everyday! In my youth I didnt pay my car tax (was caught!) and pleaded in court that "They dont spend the money on the roads anyway!" much to the horror of my brief! haha! didnt go down to well with the majistrates either! oh well, we can just dream of silky smooth roads to tear up in our Tiv's and ohther fast cars!

Ian.

You should have told them this happened in a rear access lane, as the council doesn't maintain these 'public rights of way', as they can't afford to.!!

Apparrently, they don't contest claims that happen in these lanes. They obviously send an inspector out to check there is a big hole, and if there is - you're home free

This applies for any claim, so if you fall over at home and injure yourself, find a lane that has loads of pot holes, tell them you fell there and Bob's your uncle.!!!

I claimed a while back when my exhaust was ripped off my Volvo. I took photos of the offending road area using a matchbox to provide some sort of scale - they paid for the replacemnt.
