Currently need a new boiler for my house, simple straight swap job (old boiler removed and put new one in same place) - been quoted £2,600 for the job.

Is that normal? Seem a bit high.

What sort of boiler is it? As seen from other threads I am looking for a new boiler to replace my unremarkable one. So far two independent fitters have been round, one 3 weeks ago, one a week ago no quote from either yet.

British Gas service engineer quoted £1,850 that increased to £2,150 by the time his sales office called later that day, but decreased to £1,500 plus the cost 0f a new pipe from the boiler to the the main at at unknown figure, on the engineers subsequent visit to fix parts. When British Gas made their 6th visit of the calandar year yesterday to fix the current oiler they decided to send someone to give us a proper quote to replace it.

Swale Heating have quoted £2,250 for a new boiler.

Looking at a Combi class A boiler.

Whats the price of the boiler, and the labour?

If its 50:50, it sounds very pricey for a straight swap.

Needed about 100,000 btu floor standing Condensing boiler.

Been looking at the web for rough idea of price which is about £800 for one (Ideal Mexico range)

So look like that quote is too much money for straight swap !!

I fitted a "Megaflow" system a couple of years ago. Fantastic, gives you hot and cold water at mains pressure throughout the house and does away with the old loft storage tank at the same time. Changing your boiler is not something you do every year, hopefully so its got to be worht considering.

Last summer I had a Baxi back boiler removed, the pipework sealed off, radiator removed, pipework moved and renewed and a condensing boiler put in the (integral) garage. It cost me £1800 the lot.

That is good price ! considering for all the job done

Want get it done cheaply as I will be putting my house on market next year or 2 so no need for fancy boiler.

£800 for the boiler plus about £400 tops for the labour I would have thought. You need another quote

I looked at upgrading to oil - it would cost 5k - but I assume that is because you need a tank buried in garden, new pipework etc

That would be 'I want to get rid of my old boiler. it no longer lubricates like it used to and is cold'

my boiler blew up in the summer and cost me around £2k for an decent Potterton boiler, the reason it is exepnsive is they will only fit the condenser boilers now which cost more than normal boilers apparently, so IMO the price does not seem too bad, but as has been said price does depend on the boiler you buy

www.alpha-boilers.com/

Take a look at those, I have one (3 years now) and it hasn't skipped a beat.

I reckon for the job you mention, unless some of the pipework is dodgy, you should be looking at no more than 2-3 hours labour - £300 tops IMO.

Sounds unlikely to me. have read the Terms and C onditions of the British Gas service agreement very closely as since 1st Jan this year they have already been out to my boiler 6 times, and came countless times last year too. Under there ToC they will only replace the boiler if it is less than 7 years old and beyond economic repair. It would have saved them a fortune had they changed my boiler last year, but they still won't do it.

I've heard a lot about these megaflows. Dont you need a minimum water pressure from the mains to be able to install one?

(i think thats why i had to discount the idea last year?)

Do they remove the need for pumps on showers to gain pressure?

Bloke who swapped my boiler did it in less than an hour, and that included changing the gas pipe as the old one was too big.
