'81 SC Fuel Pump Check Valve
Discussion
Mornin' Danny,
I asked for a quote for my heater relay from auto car parts. They mailed me back the next day with a quote which I gather to be quite good given the estimates I had heard previously. Try them here (www.eurocarparts.com) and use their e-mail section to ask for a quote for that part number. Or just mail mailorder@eurocarparts.com.

So what is the part that costs only £15, Danny?
Domster - The relay that I needed wasn't on the website, but they got back to me when I e-mailed them with the part no. I was only marginally happier than before as the price that they charge is £98 + VAT + posting. I think that I will try to get a second-hand / one from a scrapped car cheap.
Does anyone know anywhere that has any 3.2 Carreras lying around??

It's the one way valve that fits to the fuel pump to maintain fuel pressure when the engine isn't running.

I am having a problem with warm starting and everyone seems to think this is the usaul cause, and relativly cheap to change even if it's not the cause.
Thanks for the list of parts suppliers - I spent ages last night trying to find them!
Cheers

The way that most people tend to drive the poor RS, it seems like they are intent in converting them to side valve without even taking them to pieces.
Hemi is just short for hemispherical. Just in case you never seen one (and why would you?) all 911 heads are perfectly circular in cross section through the combustion chamber in order to fit stupidly large valves, which is why we have to make mad pistons with domes on top to fill in all the space and try to get the compression up. Engineers never have it easy you know, always something to worry about!

Back to the Check Valve. If you want to source one, more locally. The same check valve is fitted to the Mk1 golf GTI and probably a host of other K-jet cars. From memory I have had a leaky accumulator cause this as well (leaky as in diaphram).
oops I should of said similar check valve. And my car was a bit earlier so things may be slightly different!

Thinks have got worse - much worse. The car proved very difficult to start yesterday afternoon and when it finally did it ran very badly as though on only 4 cylinders.
The oil level guage started to rise so it appears that neat fuel is finding it's way into the oil.
I am going to check for leaky injectors in the morning (even though they are new)

I am sure I won't be the only one to say this But... check your metering head very carefully. In particular that you can feel some resistance on the arm and sensor plate. If the plate has no resistance there is a strong chance that your piston is stuck or sticking in the metering head causing your injectors to run regardless. I am sure someone will put this in more understandable english!
