Discussion
Been kinda having this discussion on another thread.....but anyway...
Up until yesterday, I was gonna buy a new R6 at the weekend. It might see a track one a year, but I plan to commute on it, and for fun rides at the weekend.... My mind was made up....Sorted.... Then I go a buy a copy of the latest "BIKE" magazine, and although the test rider rated it very, very highly. he said that it was a pig in town and very uncomfortable to say the least (however, he'd still but one!)
Can I have some advice? Should this put me off? Every time I look at the bike I absolutely love it. I'm not buying it to be practical, so should I just ignore this and get one....Or would a CBR600RR be a better chioce....I don't know!
Cheers.

You really need to go and test ride these bikes as while the reviews can be useful guidelines they are largely meaningless in terms of how the bike would suit you.

Ding! Same with cars. Always annoys me when people say; "Oh, I wouldn't buy a <blah> because Autocar didn't like it."
It's a wonder how some people manage to make any kind of decision at all.
Everything is personal preference.

I would, but no-one will let me test ride the R6... They all say that they don't have demo bikes.
However, I am testing a CBR on Saturday, along with an Aprilia Falco.

Chilli - I'm not sure how far you're willing to travel but I know for a fact that Continental Motorcycles in Woking have a demo R6. Probably worth a blat round the M25 for piece of mind.

Great stuff, I'll give them a shout.
Cheers.

Having said that I bought the blade without a test ride but then it's a blade and I've *always* wanted one and it would have to be painted pink and have rusty spikes on the seat for me to have though twice about it. Happily it's the best bike I've ever riden and after 5 years I still don't want anything else even though I was slightly reluctant to get on it this morning... brrrr.

Mark
I read the same article but all it did was confirm to me that the R6 is the bike I want. I don't care if all the power is made in the last 1000 revs cos that is where I will be pinging it to on every ride or trackday.
If I was using it for more mixed riding I would still get it
The CBR will however be much better built and will take the worst winter can throw at it with no problems. It will also allow you to do some sort of touring on it (although it is hardly a Pan) so you need to decide what you really want this bike for.
If the R6 also is as hard to ride around town as the last one I definitely wouldn't get one if you need it for commuting. I rode one round London a few years back and the number of times I ran out of steering lock or smacked my thumbs was unreal. My Blade is like a super moto in comparison.

Totally agree. There are too many things that may decide you to buy/not buy a particular bike that the review simply did not cover. By all means use reviews as a guide but the final decission has to come from you.

Thanks for that. I will definately be commuting, but it will be a 40 minute trip starting at 06:00, so I'm not expecting too much traffic. On the way home, I will tailor my times to miss the busiet periods. I'm just not experianced (at the mo) to be flying in and out of the traffic, and as a cautious rider will intend to minimise any risks.
The other use for the bike will be every weekend, and the 1 week holidays abroad.
I just know the CBR will be better suited, but I just LOVE the look of the R6!!

Be interested to see what you think of the Falco, it's on my possible next bike list.
Ta,

My neighbours rave about it. V Twin fans. Must admit, it's a hell of a lot of bike for the money. I'll keep you informed!

personally i think the new R6 seems a great bike but a tad overpriced at £7600 or whatever it is.[/quote]
Getting mine for £7495, with my bike as part ex, and 0% over 2 years. There's only a couple of hundred quid between the R6 and the CBR, so not a great deal in it.
