fines for parents of truanting sprogs
Discussion
when the main offenders come from benefit supported homes
Thats a bit harsh isn't it.
Dont know where you get your info from but i did my fair share of Bunking off and can assure you that most of my friends that also did didnt come from this sort of background, granted some did.
Personally i dont know what the answer is 'Boarstell' comes to mind or 'Boot Camp' for persistant offenders maybe, i dont know does imprisonment make people worse.
Bring back National Service maybe, to at least install a bit of discipline to this country(and i am too old for it now
). BB
There will always be exceptions to the rule, I was not adverse to taking the odd day off to go to the Battersea Park fun fair as a lad (the permanent one, used to be like disney to me as a kid
). Some of the kids in my school I'm sure only attended to keep their fighting skills fresh
.
However, that said, I do agree with the current thinking that by targeting the parents is the way to go. If that be by affecting their pockets then so be it, the fact that a large proportion may be on the dole/work shy is neither here nor there, it's means they can't go down the pub so often
.

Obviously all IMHO

Nu-Labour's answer to all problems - fine....what does this tell you about the mentality of the people "running" this country?
I'm disgusted with the money, money, money attitude of this shower of shite!
I mean what next? £20 for picking your nose in public, £40 for scratching your arse with the wrong hand! FFS
What a load of Bo****ks

Clearly the asylem has excelled itself today. Not only have they proved beyond all reasonable doubt that they think our kids are all like Enid Blytons famous five. They have taken their halfwitted concept to new hights. The suggestion that the Head teacher will impose the fines made me spray coffe all over my radio. I can imagine the response that will be given by the majority of the parents of regular offenders. Two words, to which there has never really been an answer. I would hate to be head teacher. What a bunch of tossers new labia are.
OK, for those who have complained about the ridiculousness f fines, what is workable, acceptable, and effective instead?
I too doubt fines will do much good, but since I don't have any better ideas myself, don't really see the point in criticising the idea.
I suspect that any simple idea has been considered before, and rejected for a number of reasons. Proposing national serbice, corporal punishment, or a return to christian values isn't likely to achieve anything either.
And also, if you have a proposal, think how you woudl have reacted had the government come out with the same thing. The national service one that was proposed above, for example, woudl be laughed out of parliament, and not stood for by even the posters here. Government making you spend a year in teh army? Woudl you really all happily do that?

Saw the useless mother on the box (social misfit etc applies), she confirmed that fines were no use, but the month in clink worked!!!!!!!
But putting head masters on the spot to do the fining is effin' STUPID. They're the ones doing the hard work trying to integrate the blaggers, the parents are usually the ones who're too lazy to discipline their misbegotten offspring!.... exceptions apply!

You know something, NBoy, whilst national service would be seemingly impossible to (re)introduce in today's ultra liberal society, I'm seriously not so sure it might not be such a bad idea.
I have a good mate in Norway and from what I know of that place, there is a general sense of communal well-being, which he reckons is due in no small part to the stint in the forces. He says it simply instills a sense of right and wrong.
The 'nice' thing about their service is that there is a degree of choice for the inidividual as to where they go, not just ito army, navy or air force but whether to be in a primarily combatant or support based role. My mate, for example, is now a whizz at radar operation! (So you may get to learn potentially useful 'real life' skill too.)
I think the problem here is that we are now so obsessed with rights there exists, in a broad context, no sense of either collective or individual responsibility or self sacrifice, deficiencies which breed that awful condition, 'somethingfornothingism.'
The state of many schools and some of their disgracefully disempowered (to discipline) teachers shows us that namby pamby ideas like marching people to cash points and fining the predominantly white trash baby boom parents are futile exercises typifying an adminstration with no answers and certainly no stomach for some revolutionary social medicine.
Get the little buggers in the forces for just 12 months at the age of 18 and many of our problems in the future might just recede. A long term strategy but in all likelihood, actually worth pursuing.
Vote for me - you know it makes sense.
Albion uber alles!!!

Jawohl Derestrictor! Give me the little bastards for 6 weeks and I'll have them behaving properly and after 10 weeks they'll be nearly human.........
Mind you the 3 B's would do all of them good as well...
Bath (bass broom scrubbing type)
Borstal
Birch
in that order......
Having a girlfriend who is an education welfare officer, aka kiddie catcher, covering a fairly rough estate in Leeds (Belle Isle for anyone who knows it) I am fairly aware of this subject matter (whether I want to be or not.)
on
It has got to a point where a lot of parents think it is the school's responsibility to bring up their kids. When Jan goes to talk to parents of kids who are serial truants she often hears, "I've tried everything, but I can't make them go."
Courts have been fing the parents for ages, but it has to get pretty bad before it gets to that stage. Stopping their child benefit, aka fag fund, would affect them a lot more.
They had a truancy sweep on Monday in Leeds city centre and of the kids they stopped about 80% were with their parents Christmas shopping.

Personally I think it's a great idea - in fact a fixed penalty should be slapped on people just for having children in the first place...
The only thing seriously wrong with it that I see, in which I agree entirely with Nonegreen, is that giving headmasters the power, nay obligation, to hand these FPNs out is a very very bad thing. Do we want headteachers to be seen like and hated like traffic wardens are?
That would be very counterproductive to the relationship schools work to build up with parents for the sake of their childrens education.
Did anyone hear the woman interviewed in a voxpop on Radio 4 the other day complaining about this? Utter fast-breeder common-as-shite, brains of a small farmyard animal. Fine her every time she ovulates!
Anyway, villifying Head Teachers is a very bad thing. Enough of them are paedophiles as it is

You bad lad!
Quite agree about a sprog tax, even though I have one moi-meme (still, she'll have read Mein Kampf by the age of 6 and be fully honed in later years, so no worries there, eh?)
Then again, the amount that goes to the Revenue c/o the missus's extravagances on Mme Petite-ricter I'm sure are compensatory for any associated socio-economic costs.
Well that's my pitiful excuse and I'm sticking to it. We both know that a kid costs about the same as a substantial porn addiction so I'm sure it doesn't take a genius...
As Carzee says this Govt has a Fine Fine Fine policy. Where the f*** do all these fines go? Why do they still have to keep raising taxes (direct and indirect) when they are collecting fines left right and centre.
Does anyone really think a headteacher isn't going to get the crap beaten out of them by some thugs parents (who would be even worse thugs) for fining them? They have to slob about watching TV all day to earn their benefit money you know.

Repeated school swervers would be put to work straight away under a Plotloss government.
Generations of this country went mining at 14 or working in mills and it never did them any harm. If they dont fancy school then off to work it is, the rest of us have no choice so why should they?
Given this government seems to be hell bent on creating the administrative nightmare that is PPP perhaps we could set up a company offering v.cheap labour and undercut Tarmac for this £5bn road regeneration scheme.
Going back to basics is the only way to regenerate society.
Matt.

Many children have the attitude that they will attend when they wish and not attend when they don't.
I did my fair share of bunking and so did my friends. (None of who were from council estates). Some would walk in to registration (or reception if late) get singed in and then leave and only come back to afternoon registration to be signed in again.
My mother is a head teacher so understands the value of a good education. She would drop me at the school gates in the morning and pick me up at the school gates a 3.30. Unfortunately there is nothing anyone can actually do to ensure that a rebellious teen attends school in real terms.
Anyway judging from the responses on here quite a few seemed to have missed a few lessons and most have turned out alright

Matt, you're a genius. Simple really. The seeds of neo-fuedalism are finally being sewn...
Excellent.
HAIL Mattheus.
