I work in a converted mill. They're converting some of the remaining buildings and smashing some of the smaller outbuildings at the moment. About 10 minutes ago, this drove into the yard directly outside my office, sounding like the approaching tanks in "Saving Private Ryan":

It's fantastic! I'm enjoying aatching it smash trees into matchwood, throw stone slabs around like they were made of polystyrene, and knock over brick walls. It's amazing!

Our neighbours had their extension done a few years ago and squeezed one of those between the two houses. You know what they feel and sound like, imagine waking up to that noise and the whole house shaking. Literally inches from both houses!

When I was staying in the Nottingham Hilton, I used to eat my breakfast looking out at the mechanical jaws on a crane take the building opposite apart. They were at it for weeks & my colleague & I never tired of watching it. Would be such fun to have a go

A few of us off here got invited to go and play with the Royal Engineers big boys toys one saturday as a thank you for helping them out with some cars previously. We all got to play in the big diggers, plus the dumpers, lorries and some odd little armoured bull dozer things that would do over 50mph flat out across rough ground. It was an awsome experience especially when I manged to get all 4 wheels on a 40 tonne armoured dumper truck (a big wheelie in army speak) off the ground at the same time when I hit a car flat out, ala monster truck style, the only draw back was unlike Monster Trucks they have next to no suspension and when the thing landed the earth moved, large parts off armoured mud guard fell off and I bounced off the armoured hatch in the roof broke my hard hat and cut my ear open!!!!!

I spent 4 hours digging a big hole in a sand quarry using a digger on monday. Brilliant fun.

22 Tonnes of destructive power

In fact, I enjoyed it so much I'm currently looking into getting my ticket for them and I'm going to go and drive them for a living instead.

I have to say though, I have watched these machines being operated for over 2 years, I see them every day, and the operators on them make it look very very very easy. I spent the first 2 hours on monday sweating, they are sooo sensitive and very precise. The guys and girls that operate are in a class of there own and the machines themselves are fantastic. They really are a credit to British Engineering.

Weve got one of these, but a 2wd non turbo:

The destructive power of an old JCB is awesome. It is a great stress reliever to go out in the crazy digger looking for something to be brutal with, ie old cars, trees, bikes, anything that needs crushing. It pops great wheelies too. Ever seen the dancing diggers? It does all that aswell. It doesnt really do that much digging, But it is a decent pipe bender... I love our digger.
