Drat and blast – flat battery on my 996TT, how do I get the bonnet open when there is no power to the solenoid that unlocks it ?

Page 149 of the manual.

1 Use key to unlock vehicle at the door lock. Leave key in the door.

2 Remove plastic cover over fuse box (between throttle and drivers door).

3 Pull out the terminal with picture of bonnet.

4 Connect + terminal of donor battery to the + terminal in the fuse box.

5 Connect - terminal of donor battery with the door latch point on the car body (not on the door).

6 Switch the alarm system off by locking and unlocking the door lock.

7 Unlock engine compartment (Access to jump start points) or luggage compartment (access to battery) with the normal switchs by the drivers seat.

8 disconnect the - cable first, then the + cable.

9 push + terminal back into fuse box.

Core blimey, there's a reason to not let your batter go flat, feck me!

Get a trickle charger, lesson learnt!

It helps when I'm in the office most of the day with car stuff in one of the filing cabinets.

Can you power the bonnet relays with a cigarette lighter jump lead? That was always my considered approach. Must RTFM more thoroughly tonight as I didn't know about the bonnet link in the fuse box

Access to the engine isn't controlled by an electrical solenoid and there is a +ve jump-lead point on the right-hand side of the engine bay (certainly is on my '52 C4S).

This surprised the RAC when I had a flat battery the other week.
