First day at work yesterday, atmosphere was very laid back. Was suprised to a mini celebration near the end of the working day, with beer and pretzels at work! Most odd, would never happen in England.
I was also suprised that my boss (top bloke with a great sense of humour) was cracking jokes about the canteen serving sour Kraut. I was suprised he knew we called them krauts!

Now I have a hard wooden floor to try to sleep on until my bed and other furnature arrives.....

This is Tom Jones syndrome* for Germany

There was a beer tap in the canteen of the company (Panavia) I worked for in Munich.

When we had working lunches beer and wine was always provided alongside soft drinks.

*Not unusual

My company's training centre is in Paris - for lunch you get a meal ticket which you can exchange for 4 items...

Including wine and beer - great for falling asleep during a long boring training session!

Whenever I worked at German customers there was beer and wine served in the canteen.

The closest I've seen here at the Jersey based IT department of an offshore division of a UK bank who allowed their workers to sit at their desk working whilst supping a beer on a Friday afternoon.

Hi Warren, of course, I live in the hilly area of forrests! It takes me about 45 mins to get into work, but that's on summer tyres, once I get to know the windy roads better....
The E21 was sideway EVERYWHERE on it's Toyo T1Rs this morning!

They even serve alcohol at petrol stations!

For me, this job has to be the most laid back job I've ever had. I work for a bank, based in the City.
We have around 200 people here in this office, and every last Friday in the month, we all get invited into the boardroom for beers and snacks. Anyway there are always beers left over, and they get brought back into the office, with people drinking them at their desks for a few days after!

We also have a good intranet site, where your holiday, sickness etc gets booked. When you book yuor annual leave, these is actually an option to select which says "Duvet Day". Just for those mornings when you wake up and think.......... Na, bo**ox!!

I once worked in central govt. as an underling to a very senior guy and we kept a fridge of various wines, beers and spirits for visitors in the unit, which in reality was never used. However, he was quite content for us to help ourselves if we had to work over as long as we replaced it fairly quickly.

The optimist in me said he was a grounded guy, the pessimist was that he was ensuring the sell by dates didn't pass by.

LOL ! Welcome to Germany !

Friday morning in the office - everyone sits down for a breakfast of sausage and beer !

Rup, depending on the tradition where you are, you might be expected to throw a small party one afternoon to introduce yourself to your colleagues. Referred to as an "Einstand".

We often have beers just before the end of the day, paid for by the owner if we've had a good week or if he is just in the mood....
