Freeview DTV rocks

I've normally been too busy to think about subscribing to the likes of Sky/Cable (although I often play with friends systems) - but I've just bought two of these £99 pace FreeView decoders. Now they have just got the news software downloaded onto them (dead simple - it does it over the air) - the whole thing rocks!
DTV teletext (a whole channel of useless information
) and interactive services are very cool, and the choice of programs is very good considering it's all "Free". There is just enough of BBC and ITV to satisfy all my real needs, and the BBCi service (particularly the weather and TV guide) are very very nice.
So - if you've never thought about it - get FreeView - for £99 it's got to be the bargin of the year!

There was somthing in the news couple days ago to the effect that the ITV Digiatl receivers were intenting to write to all those who had boxes asking for £40 or they'd come and collect them.. bit of a piss take really !! I gave mine away to my parents last year when i got sky and Id guess a lot of other people have done no longer got them for one reason or another and I certainly dont feel handing over an evenings beer money for somthing I assumed was valuless ..
So thats why its worth going the extra hog and getting sky! Dont talk to me about ITV Digital robbing bathtubs
Last Jan started working in Cardiff so living there Mon to Friday.
Telly was realy rubbish only able to get BBC1 & 2 ITV and S4C (which is a fake CH4)
So thought I'd go and purchase ITV Digital with a 12 months pre pay package for £170
Two months later they stop broadcasting all the channels I'm paying for.
They now tell me they want £40 if I want to keep the box!!! They can have the box back when they pay me the £100 odd I'm out of pocket theiving scumbags

No, no - Joust is quite right.
The big technical advantage is that this new system is run by the Beeb which, although the political coverage might be a little suspect (
), guarantees the anoraks amongst us the very best TV production values in the world (BBC engineers are Gods, btw). The fact that the bandwidths used are reasonable AND that it's anamorphic (ITV excepted, the noggins), means that everyone in widescreen TV land can finally start to derive some utility from their sets from off-air transmissions and not just George Lucas's 47th repackaging ripp-off DVD of Star Wars meets ET versus Raiders of the Lost Uber Merchandising Opportunity Part III: Special Edition {collectors' series}.
Trust me, I'm a terminator.
Anyway, I have a fundamental mistrust of Roberto 'Caniletto' Murdoch.
Anyone actually had a bill from on-digital for the box? I had it at home, before I had sky, and down graded my subscrption to the lowest spec for my son. Since they have not been broadcasting for the last 10 months or so, I think that I should be able to charge them storage on the box at, say, £1 a week... so they owe me £40 before they can reclaim the box!
