New Polo
Coming to the UK next year
Discussion
I''ll admit that I''m not the biggest fan of Volkswagens (with the expception of the brilliant Corrado V6 and the original Golf GTI) but is it me or do all VWs seem to look the same, even after a styling update? They all seem to resemble a regimented grouping of straight lines with slightly bevelled edges! I know they are renowned for their build quality but VWs are about as stylish and good looking as a rotten fish. Does anyone agree with me? (I ask as most people will shoot me down and tell me to get new glasses!).
Best Wishes,
Gareth.
Unispiring to say the least are the round headlights the only difference? - as a matter of fact I was looking for a little runabout and had a look at the Polo - nice enough but then test drove the new mini and placed an order there and then. The mini has a real quality feel to it that is amazing for the price - the Polo looks and feels tinny compared.
For such a large car company, VW don't really seem to have any flair do they? I think it must be a German thing, great build quality, poor aesthetics. Porsche can design a stonking looking car so why can't the other manufacturers? Take the Italians. I suppose the Alfa 147 and Polo can't be compared that accurately but look at both cars. The Alfa has flair and complete appeal (OK it hasn't got Teutonic build quality, yet) but it is a car that makes me go "Wow!". The Polo is, by comparison, flat and unispiring. It looks like the old Polo with Lupo headlights stuck on it! Maybe if people who just like going to the shops and picking up the kids from school stopped buying VWs then they'd have to take note and redesign their cars to encompass the much better styling of manufacturer's newer models, e.g. the Mini, Focus, 147, Stilo etc.
Now if only their cars were as stylish and as well executed as their adverts...
