put my car up for sale last weekend (separate story!) and on the ads I wrote something about "politely no canvassers". Since then I have had between 2 and 4 calls a day from the same firm. They call and hang up, first time I called them back, realised they were canvassers and (politely) told them I was not interested. Got a call back that night and another and....

Have made two further calls to them to make it explicitly clear that I am not interested yet the calls keep coming and they refuse to give the name of the parent company. The phone number to look out for is 01592 777 800

If anyone has any ideas as to how to stop this I would be most grateful, have also filled in the OFCOM nuisance and sales calls form, can only help clamp down on these jokers.... www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/mobile/unwanted/sales/?itemid=285970

Ask them to hang on while you fetch the seller. Leave the phone still connected and go do something else, leaving them waiting until they hang up.

Talk complete bollox to them about I dunno, wether salmon or trout is best, anything really.

Pretend to be from Sweden and do an impression of Meaker from Sesame Street.

Basically do anything that makes it a ballache for them to phone you.

I've done 1 and 2 but haven't yet done 3.

I find it quite funny to totally go along with them for 4 or 5 minutes, and then begin to act slightly dumb.......then begin to act very dumb.......until you eventually convince them that you don't even know what a car is......or who you are....

Lots of entertainment to be had!

I've found putting them on speaker phone and wandering off helps, or giving the phone to my 11 month old, who just *loves* bashing the receiver on the dining table...

Ok, very immature, but, saying "Hello!" normally, and then making a farting sound with your mouth, quietly, and playing along with them, while subtly farting between sentences out to get their goat.

What I did once was to hold down one of the buttons, so it goes beeeep and then saying off!!! It does the trick...

Hee hee, that is a rather good idea, allows you to vent without actually being offensive. Another one (for Indian telecoms salespersons) is "Oh, hang on, I will just put you through... to the hanging-up department"... bzzzz......

Doesn't work with canvassers.

Personally I just ask them politely to wait, and continue doing whatever it was I was up to before I was interrupted. Was.
