can anybody tell me if the red paint code p420 is a standard car colour available in airosol cans or will i need to get some mixed

Best thing is to find out what it belongs to... i.e. mine is a Toyota colour and I can get touch up, or a can from a Toyota dealer.

IIRC P420 was the old ICI formulation code; there was usually another few digits after that to tell you the colour?
My car was originally P422 something, but it's been resprayed several times and the nearest match I could get from paint chips was a Lancia colour! Like you can get that off the shelf at Halfords...

oh dear! you've asked one of those questions!
either you'll be lucky and your paint code actually means something ,OR
if like me and GSX600,your paint code is utterly useless!:angry:
1/my dealer tried 3 times to get a touch-up pen,and we gave up after they were all miles off a match.
2/I spoke to ICI,and they confirmed my code was Rover Azure blue( actually a silver with blue tint)!
3/ managed to speak to a guy at the paint shop at the factory,who had been there when the wedges were in productio ,who advised me it was a similar colour to Ford Azure blue,and even gave me the proper paint code.
4/ tried a local paint shop,and gave them the code,their paint supplier said
the code was wrong,so they matced it using the colour swatches!!
In other words.. don't expect miracles!

Do a search on the forum, this has come up several times. I ended using the Nexia(?) autocolour website to get the formula for what was essentially an old Toyota colour and then went to an autofactors that were approved autopaint dealers for them to mix up an aersosol and touchup stick. About £12 I think.

Perfect match.

Halfrauds aerosols are £9.99, and you can use it for touch up by spraying some into the cap and using a fine brush.

I spent an hour matching up swatches on mine....

Another problem you get nowadays is that most paints are water based and ours were painted with good ole celluse type paint. So you need to try and find a supplier that will supply you the old type while they can.

Managed to get mine matched up to the wings with a perfect match but then the bonnet looked different.
