Views on a 996 C2 - comments appreciated!

Up until now I've been focusing on 993s in the £20-25K bracket. However, I'm starting to think that maybe I could live with the less aesthetically-pleasing 996 styling so am considering examples in the same kind of bracket.

From what I've read on here, I get the impression that I shouldn't be put off by the comparatively high mileage?
I haven't really got much of a feel for 996 pricing yet. Any views on whether this is about right? Is there likely to be any haggle factor worked into that price? I'd prefer to buy cash but there's not much interest in my own car so I'd consider a p/x deal - I suspect that this wouldn't work in my favour when it comes to haggling though.
I might go and have a look at it tomorrow - and for comparison purposes, a 993 Targa up for sale a few miles away in central Brum. Any views on this 996 welcome!

Aside from the 993 v 996 issues which you're probably familiar with (or do a search on here for lots of comment), I'd say price seems to be at or around the right price.
For comparison, portiacraft.com have a '98 silver car with 65k on the clock for the same price.
Northway porsche have an 86k miles S plate for £24,495; also a GT3 look 90k miles for £25995
Henry's got a left hooker at £23k (bug price), dunno the mileage

Yes, I've read a LOT of the old 993 -v- 996 threads on here, so I think I've got a decent handle on the respective pros and cons. There will always be a very special place in my heart for the 993 even if I did buy a 996.
Of course, in an ideal world, I'd buy a 997 - which has the looks of the 993 but the modernity of the 996 (and then some). Unfortunately, I'm a few quid short.....

Go with your heart then and buy what YOU want (wallet permitting of course
) and enjoy it. The pros and cons for either model may sway you back and forth for ever and a day with your final decision. IMO, if you are buying a car as a toy, or living the dream, get the model you want and bollox to the rest. You only live once! And good luck with your decision.

I've never really considered the 996 before now, partly because they've always been out of reach in terms of budget but also because I've always preferred the 993 looks.
The missus recently bought into the 911 dream when we came back from shopping to find a 996 parked up next to us. So, whilst it will be my toy, it requires a certain amount of "buy in" from her before I can extend the budget enough to make it happen - and she very firmly prefers the 996! She thinks the inside of the 993 "makes it look like a Cortina"!! Harsh, but I can see where she's coming from.....
I think I maybe need to show her a few 993s to balance out her view!
I've aspired to a 911 since I started driving. I could happily live with either a 993 or 996, I think.

I know what you mean as I have an earlier car. But its all part of the charm. It must be confusing being able to get a 996 for 993 money but even if my 6 numbers came up I would definately have a 993 derivative of some sort in my garage.
Put it this way, drag the missus out and find one you both like, and buy it. Settled! Then you can start enjoying it! Good luck.

Bloody hell! I thought it might be pricey, but not THAT pricey!
If I do go down the early 996 road, it looks like it will have to be ebay and then find a friendly local indie to fit them for me!
