Have you checked the classifieds? You can get a rough one for 10k on ebay sometimes. Generally 14k and above though.

Welcome by the way!

You need to be a bit more specific.
What year are you looking at?
Red Rose or standard 4.5, has it been mapped, what suspension ?
How much do you want to spend?
Can you afford to run it?(no seriously they can cost a bit)
What cars have you had before?
Nick.

Getting out to some of the TVR meetings to have a look at some cars, blag a passenger ride (most owners don't pass up a chance to show a newbie "what she'll do" will help you get a feel for the cars. I've a preference for the V8s - there are pros and cons to 4.2/4.5 - the 4.5 is ultimately more powerful but the throttle response of the 4.2s is better (unless you find a 4.5 with modified inlets and a decent remap). The Speed Six cars can be bought for less than V8s and they're a nicer daily driver than the V8s - they're not ultimately as quick but if you've not had these types of cars before, they are more than quick enough. The signature engine for a Cerbera though is the AJP8 V8.

Condition and evidence of history are EVERYTHING. £12-£16K is private/independent dealer territory. Your money goes further on a private car ....but you'll do well to take a Cerbera-owning buddy with you (hence importance of getting out to meet a few of us).

Cerberas benefit from regular maintenance - more regular than the service intervals. They're not unreliable, they are rather highly strung. Whilst 'infiltrating' Cerbera-land, make sure you get to know some of the good indie garages and the tuners.

Once you've got a Cerbera though, there's no looking back... nothing before or since is like a Cerbera.

you'll need £3K a yr to service and repair.

Standard Factory Options Can be found here:

Post Factory Mods can be found here:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=217253

This should give you a head start you can search on keywords for the rest...

BTW... have you checked your garage is wide enough? (to get the doors open) many "new build" garages are not wide enough for this!!!

Garage! I wish!

Mine causes people to walk into lamp-posts, a bit like that VW advert. It's quite satisfying sitting in the front room with the car just outside. 90% of people do the full rubber neck as they walk past it.

Gazzab. Your username should be '3kayear'! lol.

I do go on about 3K a yr but it is vital that people dont underestimate running costs.
The avg yr is 3K in my experience and that of most owners (IMHO)!!! It isnt tongue in cheek.
if you get away with less costs in one yr then lucky you BUT you will need tyres, exhaust, battery, clutch, brake disks, pads, services, tappet adjustment, air con fixes, poetentially engine work and potentially diff and gbox etc.....
IF you cant afford £3k pa to run as an occaisional car then walk. If you want to use as every day car then maybe increase budget for running costs.

If you plan to wield the spanners yourself then no, its not 3k a year, however parts aren't that cheap either.... how does 100 quid + VAT + delivery for ONE front disc sound?

A good indie will make a big difference to servicing costs as they're labour rate is typically half that of the main dealers and they tend to do a better job on the whole....

Come along to a meet and have a chat, it'll be worth your while if your're serious about buying one.

I still reckon you should be looking at the late teens/20k mark for a good 4.5

I agree, but it is only fair to advise potential new owners of the REAL costs, I advise anyone to take note of BossCerbera, his response was spot on.

IMHO, I would look for a Cerb from someone who has owned the car for at least 3 years, and had the usual upgrades, that way the car should be mainly sorted and you will see regular recognised services.

£3K per year possibly a bit high once the suspension and other mods are done, but then not everyone has indies like Ian (Middlewich) and Joo (Trackcar) within an hours drive.

Good Luck in finding a good one, it will rock you world.

I disagree - I have a VERY VERY reasonable hrly rate in APM and as knowledgeable as any one else out there - but I still believe £3K pa is spot on for running a cerb. If you use stealers then it will be more. £3K excludes mods. If you allow less than £3K then it is at your peril. Often people get away with less but often it costs a lot more.

gazzab,

i am very pleased for you, but please read what i said, even in your most sorted Cerby I doubt you will find you can reach APM within one hour from Manchester.

Also i would strongly discourage anyone who chooses to have their Cerbera serviced, by selecting a low hourly labour rate, a good tech who knows the score will charge accordingly and usually take his time doing the job right first time.

3k is a little expensive not including upgrades/mods for a non daily driver, which is not tracked.

but then I guess its a case of how much care and how much attention to detail one chooses? we all know of someone whom has been seriously ripped by a supposed "Specialist or Factory Main Dealer", but lets not name.

In my first year i spent a touch over £4k, suspension, brakes, service, slave seals, etc
second year was less than £1.5k on a service, and few other bits including a set of Toyos.

think we are at cross purpose here !!
All I am trying to say is that even with a low hrly rate and without upgrade work it is easy to hit £3K in a yr just on repairs, servicing, tyres.....

guys i would rather know the true facts ,i am a biker that spends a fortune on track/day race tyres so 3k a year dosent put me off,its only a summer posing car anyhow so mileage will be low (cue all year round drivers abuse)
