Hello..

A friend of mine's family has some wealthy greek shipping friends who have a flat with a balacony in Monaco, and I'm trying to wangle a space on it. Unlike them though I haven't quite reached the jet-set salary, so I am trying to do it on the cheap if at all possible.

Has anyone travelled out, any tips to share?

The general idea at the moment is to fly as close as possible, get a hire car, book a cheap b&b on the outskirts, and get a train in on the day.. That's as far as the plan has got.

Any comments / advice will be very much appreciated.

I'd suggest the bus. The train station is well away from the airport, the bus stop is right outside, and the driver asks where you're staying. Here's Barrie Williams waiting at the stop and reading Autosport, as you would if you were a driving God...

I have been several times and stayed down the coast in Nice or Cannes and cought the train down for race day. Train is a wonderful service along the coast there. More expensive on raceday of course.

A friend of mine caught the train out to Monaco one year, think he travelled overnight each way so no hotel cost!
