I receive a monolithic amount of unsolicited and junk email, but I often have a look at them for a laugh.

This email just landed in my junk folder:

132746 hi, i have seen your profile on line you are...very very hot
lets gettogether andhave some fun
addme to msn, messenger ,my is hottielookingforfun
lethave fun

Daasoxxxpl

Bkuv
Rbcoembo

Problem with this is, its not trying to look at a porn site, its not trying to flog me a fake watch, remorgage any property I may have, or indeed procure me with viagra like substances.

Spam or junk email used to do most of the above, but a large amount of it of late seems to be totally pointless and total gibberish.

Any ideas as to why emails such as above are sent?

Whats your ISP? Many have spam filtering options in the webmail access.

Either trying to trick your bayesian filters before a campaign is launched, or sending out random e-mails to see if they bounce. No bounce equals a valid e-mail address to sell.

so upset last year - i've had the same email address for 11 years and I've just had to vacate it as everything is junk. it was becoming a real pain to figure out what was junk and what wasn't, especially since i check email from a mobile phone at time - it just became impossible.

I've been using SpamBayes on Outlook for a whilie which is very good at recognising spam.

However, in the last couple of months they have taken to sending messages in a forwarded kind of way - so usual spam email at the bottom, with "Hi X, saw this and thought of you, love Y" bit at the top. Confuses the software as it looks like a real forwarded mail

Scam. They're hoping to trap desperate people into thinking someone out there wants them. They converse via email then offer to visit the victim. The victim is then asked to send the airfare or money to get visas to visit the country. After sending off the money the love-sick victim is left with cock in hand and an empty wallet. Look at the email headers to get the originating IP address. It'll either be africa or russia!
