V8S tyres

I need to replace my V8S´s tyres. At the moment I have Bridgestone SO2´s but I believe these are no longer produced Does anyone out there with a V8S have any recomendations as to which tyres to purchase? I would also appreciate your thoughts on where to buy them

I'd avoid P 6000s like the plague though. Like driving on an oil slick..

Thanks for the warning on the P 6000´s Psycho! It looks like the F1´s aren´t too good either.

I might go for the RE720´s but am concerned that they might not like it if I apply a lot of welley! They only go up to a V rating (149mph).

I have also considered Toyo´s but they don´t come in 60 progile, only 55! Any thoughts would be appreciated, there can´t be 300 people out there on SO2´s!

Just went for a spin round the block and my opinion on the tyres I currently have stands.. Not fun in traffic.. I think I'll keep them for a track day..

Have heard the F1s are pretty good.. No experience of them myself. Sawpped to 720s on the S3 when I couldn't get a set of SO2s and found them pretty good. Took a while to bed in though..

RE720's are a great tyre, I had them on the back of mine before going for a lot more grip in 245/45 x 16's but still have RE720's on the front and they are great. I have heard mixed reports about F1's and 6000's but no experience myself?

Agree you should avoid the P6000s. I have them on mine, no amount of silliness with the right pedal will wear the buggers down & I'm too tight to replace tyres with tread still on them.

F1's are good on the front, but NOT ON THE REAR! (I'm not the only one to have said this).

I would not worry too much if you have to buy tyres with a 55 profile, this didn't make a bit of difference to my car. I think that the V rated tyres may be a problem with the insurance, but others know more than I do about such things.

Perhaps you can source a supplier that has some Bridgestone S03 PPs left in their warehouse. These were one of the tyres recommended to me on here when I replaced mine early last year, and I have had no problems with them at all. I don't drive like a lunatic, but they grip well in all the conditions I've come across including torrential downpours and sleet.

I could not source F1's this year. Had them on mine for a couple of years and was impressed.
It's getting increasingly more difficult to source Z rated tyres in 15" diameter. I've just had Dunlop SP 9000's fitted to mine - still 'getting a feel' for them.

I've got F1's all round and they are fine and dandy IMHO.

Black Circles is the place to order them from (and get a 10% PH discount ). Get them (delivered & ) fitted at your local friendly tyre place.

Serious question, how do you find their ability to not deform and squirm under acceleration almost to the point of getting rear wheel steer out of them. I found mine to be possitivity dangerous when fited on the rear, to the point of pulling over more than once, to check for what felt like punctures, loose wheel nuts, broken suspension etc . Put them on the front though and they are not so bad, but I will not buy any more.................

I ran bridgestone SO3'S on my V8S when i owned it but they only come in a 55 profile (205/55/zr150) but they were good and had no problems in wet or dry.

Harry could the problem be your suspension is overly stiff for the softer walled tyres, such that the tyres are doing most of the work?

I will have the same problem with tyres for my V8S
I am considering the RE720's but has anyone tried the 205/60R15 FALKEN ZE512 91V's?

I've heard they are good on 'sporty' hatches but what about Tiv's.

My current tyres are 'cheap/budget tyres' that came with the car and are about as good as running on ball bearings when wet, so no comparison.

I would go to 55 profile but the 10 mm difference will finish the exhaust on our lanes (mental note replace tyres and exhaust now !!)

Standard 205/55/15Zr's, started off with 24psi tried everything from 20 to 30psi, settled on 28psi in teh end but still was not happy. I think maybe as pies says it is a combnation of sfot side walled tyres and stiff(ish) suspension. Even at 28psi you could indent the side wall with you're thumb wereas the SO3's were like concrete. Put the SO3's on the back and the F1's on the front (as I recall suggested by your goodself!) problem gone away, only thng is that I found the turn-in lost a bit of crispness, however I am now used to that.

I completely agree with Harry here. I had F1's on the back and they were bloody dangerous IMO, at any pressure. I swapped mine to the front and kept bridgestones on the rear. A(actually they are great on the front.) If someone would like to try fitting them on the rear of their car and they live near me (North Bucks), then let me know and you can take them for a test drive (no doughnuts please).

I have had the RE720's fitted. Took the car for a spin last night but didn't try anything too silly as the tyres are brand new. So far so good! I will let you know how I get on.

I have also had them fitted to the rear wheels - 3 days ago - shall we compare notes :-)
Off to Peninsula again tomorrow so good opportunity to give them a proper run...
