Questions for Flight Sim addicts

having played a few in the past and recently playing Sky Oddyssey (spelled wrong, but that's how the game title's spelled.. mkay?) on the PS2, I'm imbued with the desire to dabble with Flight Sims again..

The fundamental requirement is a force feedback stick.. the shortlist is the Logitech Wingman FF 3D and the MS Sidewinder FF2. Significant price difference - can the extra £30 or so for the MS offering be justified, especially in light of the fact that MS will not support the FF2 under XP an are likely to drop support for it altogether when the FF3 inevitably arrives..?

Also, FS Games.. FS2002? Combat FS3? IL-Sturmovic (?) ?

Don't know about the hardware but when I was training to be a pilot we used MS Flightsim in the class room.

Its incredibly realistic, more so now as we were using an older version.

IL-Sturmovic is absolutely stunning!

Apart from that there is a new Falcon (5.0 I think) coming out and anything by DID such as EF2000 is most definately worth a look.

I have used the FF2 under XP (professional) with nary a hiccup...

I am a big fan of the Combat FS games. Haven't tried 3 yet (Christmas is coming and wife says I am hard to buy for so am not allowed to by ANY toys from November to end of year!) but in the past versions of the game, performance was based on how good your graphics card was. If you have a top end Nvidia or ATI card, you should be fine...

I brought the top of the rande MS flight joystick thingy with the Force Feedback, and it worked fine under XP.

I also got FS 2002 at the same time, which worked lovely too.

Shame about my flying skills...

I bought an FF2 a year ago when in the US, was a bit cheaper than over here and works fime on my PC at home (XP with Athlon 1700).

I went flying for real in October this year; pal of mine in Louisiana has a Piper Cherokee. Trouble with the 'real thing' is that you can't hit the pause button and go for a pee

I have FS2002 with a Logitech Wingman 'stick and it's fine, although very occasionally the program "forgets" the throttle control when in helicopter mode but it's great in every other respect.

I don't think the Microsoft hardware is worth the cost, remember that a MS Mouse is still something like £30 and that's certainly no better than a logitech (£15) item.

Also have the Harrier Combat back which is 10/10 IMHO.

I'll have a fly against you on Falcon 5. F4 was simply the best for me. Any idea when its out? And I need your address btw for the video.

i brought Ef2000 a few years back and still cant get the Fcuker to work.Load some joystick in an all.
It (from memory)was meant to run in msdos mode.
Still in box as good as new so if you want it Carzee
as a Chrimbo prezee let me know and you can try and load and play.

IL2 Sturmovik is the best current WW2 flight sim and there is a sequel soon to be release that allows you to fly bombers online with your mates as the crew - like B17 2 was supposed to be before they decided not to include multiplayer
I have the Logitech FF 3D and its great for the money, not as powerful as the MS FF2 but its more subtle.
