It's a fantastic film... I'm not sure the Warsaw ghetto was a particularly cheerful place to be... What do you want? Dancing troups, and clowns in the street?

Magnificent must see film.

First saw it a couple of years ago on the giant IMAX screen at Bradford.

Recommended.

Just watched this - absolutely amazing.

Didn't realise it was a true story until the end.

Dammit, what a film it is and I missed it.

What kind of stupid time is this to put on such an excellent film? Should be 9pm and required viewing tbh.

Adrian Brody is a superb actor. Come into his own this last few years.

People should watch this . This actually happened. I'm 60 years old, I vividly remember my Dutch mother had a friend with a tatooed number on her forearm. That very lovely Lady was a young jewess who survived. I am not a jew ,however , the jews were subjected to a clinical factory production like system for Death and disposal like so many units of product. It might serve you well , when you discuss the relative merits of the producerand Director. Can any of you even begin to imagine the undiluted terror and panic a young mother with her children facing their unnecessary deaths : the utter helpless frustration and effront to humanity and her babies. It was a good film . It was only a film . Noone could have recorded the reality, it would have been unbelievable.

My apologies, I was born in Holland at the end of the war. Throughout the war my Dutch grandfather hid two Jewish children in the roof space. Their families ,it transpired perished in the "Death Camps". Those "jewish" children are now in their late seventies . The only family they have, is us. My grandfathers grave always has flowers . Plus a lot of loose stones.

It really does make you realise how lucky we are today.

Films like this go some way to giving us a perspective on the horror and sheer hopelessness that people must have felt at the time. It's easy for us to watch it knowing that "we won" and knowing how long it lasted - of course nobody knew this at the time.

Thought provoking stuff.

When I was doing GCSE History at school there was a lot of "modern" history - mostly WW1 and preiod between the wars, but I think this should be required study for all kids. We really must not forget this stuff.

I saw it at the cinema and was very moved. Brilliant film. So I thought I'd sit down and watch it again last night; do you know when you're not mentally prepared to embark upon such a thing?
Well, I had to stop after the ghetto was established, I knew what was coming.
I often think films lkike this or fact based drama should be used in school history class; it may well be already but the likes of Schindler's List, Shoah, Holocaust, Band Of Brothers, Private Ryan etc. could not only be valuable aids in a teenager's understanding of death and loss, but also quite shocking depictions of war and persecution through history.

TBH I was surprised when I found out it was a true story. (Never seen the film before.) The pianist was lucky to survive so many close calls.

I can imagine it must have been hell for them - in a way, when those Jews were shot in the ghetto (eg the woman who politely asked, "Where are you taking us?" I thought they were the lucky ones.

Thing is, this sort of thing went on in the Far East, too. Japanese soldiers abused their prisoners eg keeping the Malay female prisoners together by sewing thread through their breasts.

Agreed...excellent film and just as with Schindlers List, both based upon true stories.

For years now, I have wanted to visit the museum at Auschwitz in Poland...not a morbid facination, but one of trying to understand or try to experience the suffering that the Jews went through under the Nazi regime.

Things haven't changed much, you just try and keep some kids stashed away in your attic.

Ze authorities will want to know about it.

ooh that was good timing...

It's an awesome film. I've only seen it once. I ended up crying about halfway through - not becuase I felt attatched to any of the characters really, just because the film portrays so well the capacity we have for evil, and our ability not to question things (which is really what allowed the nazis to do what they did). People are pretty rubbish really.

(possibly a spoiler!)

a very sad film. i was sure he was going to get killed near the end by those russian troops. what an incredibly horrid time, im a big uncaring bugger but i got tearful so may times watching this film. i take it none of his family survived? there was no mention of any of them on the end credits. the acting was brilliant.

im not a huge fan of people in general, and think they should be avoided mostly, but i struggle with how human beings can be so cruel to one another. i wonder if films like this should be shown in secondary schools? just being told that the war was 'terrible' doesnt really convey the horror in the way this film did.

The end bit where he was shot at by the russians was a bit predictable. I guess the lack of food kinda made him lightheaded. I liked it when they asked, "Why are you wearing that coat?" and he replies, "Because I'm cold."
