What insurance excess?

I'm just renewing insurances on two cars, and there is a reasonable difference depending on the XS - the difference between a £300 and £500 XS is nearly £50 on one, £80 on the other.

It seems that there probably isn't any point in claiming unless it's a really big one, so was planning to go for the higher excesses. Any thoughts?
