Precat fuel sender,

Looks like my fuel tank sender unit has given up.
It was working the other day, but hardly working today.
I have shorted the wires out and the gauge indicated full.

Is it a tank out job to remove it?

Is it a TVR specific unit or can I source one from elswhere????

Bloody typical just put £25 worth of Optimax init too....

I think it is quite easy to get to, behind the carpet to the top right of the fuel tank (from the boo) you should be able to easily get to the sender unit.

On my precat it is too. TBH I can't see how on earth it'd come out with the tank in place. I could do with removing it to adjust it, but I'm almost certain it'll be more grief than it's worth.

Pretty Sure its a Tank out Job on the precats.

Have you tried searching the Forums Anthony as I remember stupidly saying on a similiar thread before that you can just take them out the top of the tank ( as I did with my 500) and repair. I then preceded to get shot down and told that it was on the side on the Pre-cat and teh tank needed to come out

By this I mean buying a 500 tank with sender.

As far as I know tank senders generally operate using a float-actuated slider, the resistance of which varies according to the float position. There are such things as 'universal' tank senders. The fuel guage translates the resistance into fuel level. Accordingly senders (with tank in this case) should be interchangeable (assuming the tank fits) but you might need a calibrating resistor in series somewhere to get the readings right.
